Hopefully, this drives a spurned Clayton Kershaw into our comforting arms.

Can't wait to read 25 more posts about Adrian Houser. I check in every hour or two. How exciting.

Oh well, I suppose I take solace that he isn't signing with the MFY

Re: Let's talk about Yoshinobu Yamamoto
OKay, the rest of the dominoes can fall now.
Not getting Yamamoto is a huge blow. I guess we'll be seeing Braves-Dodgers NLCS games for the next decade. Having already lowered expectations for 2024 I'm guessing the Mets will live up to them, adding a few pieces here and there but nothing earth-shaking, while waiting for the farm talent to mature.
They still need pitching desperately. Adrian Houser is not the answer here, but i get the feeling the winter is going to be full of a lot of moves like that.

I'm going to assume this is mostly about being able to go home to Japan more often and with less inconvenience.

Re: Let's talk about Yoshinobu Yamamoto
holy shit, though. 12 years for a pitcher. WHAT?! is baseball taking crazy pills? i really hope the dodgers are going to be able to market the fuck outta themselves in japan or these contracts are going to hurt.
i don't think the mets are necessarily going to make a big pivot to other big name players this offseason. and i think that's probably the right play, if they're really building for '25
maybe a jordan montgomery makes sense, but that might be the biggest big name for them to go after this year as they build for next. giolito would be an interesting get.
but, um, seriously, can we throw some of that yamamoto money pete's way. please?

So with Houser in the house, is Tylor Megill now fifth, sixth or eighth on the starting pitching depth chart?
So riveting.

Let's play Yacabonis Roulette all over again. For like the 10th year in a row. We'll get one or two dozen established mediocrity pitchers and cross our fingers hoping that one of them develops into the next Bob Myrick.

I know it's 12 years, and if he gets hurt or sucks, it's gonna be 12 years. But I wonder if they are almost expecting him to take the opt-out at five years.
Re: Let's talk about Yoshinobu Yamamoto
Too much time and dough for a guy that has never thrown a MLB pitch. I'm fine with the Dodgers taking that risk instead of us.

Re: Let's talk about Yoshinobu Yamamoto
12 years is wild, but a 25-year old stud free agent is also kinda unknown territory. Dodgers hoping they get 7 or 8 (?) great years I'm sure, but those extra years helped suppress the AAV from $40MM per season if it were, say, 8 years to $26MM over 12. That may even save them a ton in tax money depending on how these next 10 years go for them.metsmarathon wrote: ↑Fri Dec 22, 2023 9:16 am holy shit, though. 12 years for a pitcher. Roki Sasaki is just turned 22 and damn near threw back-to-back perfect games last year. How many years is that dude gonna get if he's posted in '24?
great googly moogly!

Can't blame Uncle Steve for lack of effort. This ain't the Wilpons. Still, it hurts.
That deferral of Ohtani money made this possible. And boy, 12 years for a pitcher is really rolling the dice, no matter how good he is. Let's hope he morphs into late-era Hideki Irabu.

Right?
No fucking way the guy on the right throws harder.
Anyway. I guess it's not terrible to miss out on 12 years to a little guy that throws hard. History tells us they don't hold up. But will probably be awesome for 4-5 years if he's everything he's cracked up to be.
