Re: Ten Mets on the Ballot (Hall of Fame 2024)
This is the kind of stuff that makes people dislike some sportswriters. Marcos Breton casts a highly questionable ballot -- just Beltre and Beltran, though I approve of the Beltran part -- then comes off like a jerk on Twitter.
When someone questioned why he voted for Wagner last year but not this year:Marcos Breton

Not surprised by crying fan boys when ballots are announced. Sorry to hurt your little feelings. You get no credit for transparency on this platform. Some players who didn’t get a vote this year could get one next year. Meanwhile, grow up.

Engagement farming? I post my ballot every year. Why the change? Players have 10 years of eligibility, which leaves room for consideration. Over time, decided I was going to vote for the people I felt really strongly about. This year, I felt strongly about two. Thats it
Then he posted a bunch of crying people GIFs when people were critical. I get that Twitter is just a nest of hate speech. But he's the California Opinion Editor for McClatchy Newspapers. He's posting as a professional and needs to act like a professional. If I was his editor, I'm be disappointed in his behavior more than his ballot.Daniel Curren

Any particular reason you dropped Andruw Jones and Billy Wagner this year?

I’m not there on Wagner. Jones still has eligibility

The ballot is justifiable if your stance is "no proven steroid guys" and Beltre/Beltran are pretty arguably the two best guys left.

The argument AGAINST Billy Wagner is a pretty strong one. He lowers the current innings pitched bar by more than 10% from the current lowest guy (Bruce Sutter) in the hall.
I personally don't think Sutter should be in either.

The ballot is justifiable. Most are. Being a Twitter dick, not so much. But the platform pretty much rewards dicktitiousness.nymr83 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 27, 2023 4:37 pmThe behaviour is worthy of discipline.Marshmallowmilkshake wrote: ↑Wed Dec 27, 2023 4:06 pm

Sports journalists who write public opinions without actually feeling obliged to get their facts right, unfortunately, is legion, and often enough has been rewarded by the Hall of Fame itself.
