Imanga, Manea and Ryu

Post by Johnny Lunchbucket » Fri Jan 05, 2024 8:28 am

Jon Hey Man says these 3 pitchers are "connected" to the Mets.

All 3 have international backgrounds, as Manea (born in Indiana) is the son of a Samoan.

Imanga has a nickname "The Throwing Philosopher." I don't know what that is about. He's a crafty small lefty, 30 years old.

i like the idea of imanaga. seems like he'd be a quality add. not a top of the line guy, but certainly a solid mid-rotation starter. the kind of player a team building for the future could use and keep around.

the rest... eh... at least they'd eat innings....

"The Throwing Philosopher."

Sounds like a crafty pitcher

The son of a Samoan is a great description

The posting deadline for Imanaga expires in six days, so we'll know soon enough. I do hope they sign him.

Imanga, Manaea, and Ryu
Imanga, Maanea, and Ryu
Philosophical throwa
Son of Somoa
And Toronto lefthander in blue

I'd dance a conga
if we got Imanga
Who has spent his career in Nippon
He gives up fly balls
That can reach shallow walls
So the Yanks and the Phils have moved on

But if he can be crafty
If the ballpark ain't drafty
And the league hasn't figured him out
And the Mets make him wealthy
We'll pray he stays healthy
And trust that we know how to scout

I know Sean Manaea
A career West Coast playa
Spent last year with the Giants I thinks
But alas San Francisco
Is deader than disco
The players all think that it stinks

With his long flowing locks
He no-hit the Red Sox
And that is no easy assignment
He's Samoan, not short
But 6'5", I report
May his spine never lose its alignment

Our third guy's Korean
And a fine human bein'
Tho' his physique is described as quite hefty
From Korea's bright shores
Only Park has won more
Games than this world famous lefty

But his big bag of tricks
Is now age thirty-six
And by opening day, thirty seven
I'd explode into flames
If he won but ten games
And if he wins fifteen, I'm in Heaven

Imanga, Manaea, and Ryu
Imanga, Maanea, and Ryu
The Pool now discusses
Minuses, pluses
Of three lefties we all barely knew

Manaea used to be a good pitcher. We shall see.

Don't look for the Mets to make a splash signing before camp

Wendle, Taylor Stewart Vientos

These are your guys

It will be a year of prospect development and the culling the roster

I would imagine Narvaez is next

From D.J. Short (NBC Sports): "Spent some time in the bullpen, but was very good after returning to the rotation in September. 2.25 ERA, 18/2 K/BB ratio in 24 innings across four starts."

D.J. Short then returned to his floor-filling heavy mix of techno, trance-core, and Latinx beats.

Like D.J. Short's killer set, David Stearns seems to be preparing his roster with a mind to nailing the segues.

Manea on a two-year, $28 million deal seems like a stop gap, but ok.

Don't look now, but our pitching staff has consisted almost entirely of stop-gap acquisitions over the last few years.

The crew below were all acquired from outside the org in the Cohen era and combined to make 334 starts.
Yet only two made as many as 50 starts (61 & 59), just three remain on the 40-man, and only two (Senga
and Quintana) are likely to make a significant number of starts going forward.

Pitcher Acquired APP/Starts 1st NYM G Last NYM G
Marcus Stroman FA 44 / 44 3/28/19 10/2/21
Max Scherzer FA 42 / 42 4/8/22 7/28/23
Chris Bassitt Trade 30 / 30 4/9/22 10/2/22
Carlos Carrasco Trade 61 / 61 7/30/21 8/26/23
Taijuan Walker FA 59 / 58 4/8/21 10/4/22
Rich Hill Trade 13 / 12 7/25/21 9/30/21
Joey Lucchesi Trade 20 / 17 8/7/21 ??
Trevor Williams Trade 40 / 12 8/12/21 10/5/22
Justin Verlander FA 16 / 16 5/4/23 7/30/23
Jose Quintana FA 13 / 13 7/20/23 ??
Kodai Senga FA 29 / 29 4/2/23 ??

i'm starting to worry that our rotation is filled with too many stop gaps and not enough fill gaps.

That's a 75-win pitching rotation.

It might be. If it is, I think they feel like they can flip any of the guys not named Senga at the deadline to pad the farm and then load up in '25.

And maybe it's an 83-win team that flirts with a wild card. I think that's possible, too.

There are some spots in the lineup that need improvement.
To paraphrase Jack Nicholson in A Few Good Men - please hope the GM hasn't pinned our future to the return of Starling Marte.
