Which overlooked figure is neglected by the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame but deserves enshrinement in The Crane Pool Alternative Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Awesome?

As The Who tried to teach us so long ago, it's hard.

I'm going with the B-52's, who have, as yet, zero nominations, despite

• decades of longevity;
• four essential albums;
• a persistent distinctiveness;
• a period of a few months in 1989 as the biggest band in the world, despite it not even being their defining period, and their musical leader having died;
• a guy who would probably instantly qualify as the least-talented frontman of any inducted band, but who nonetheless clearly brought something critical to the table, which is pretty punk;
• reaching back before 1965 for their inspiration, which was utter rock 'n' roll hetereodoxy before they and the Ramones came along;
• the alpha among big-shot Athens bands, but somehow outlasting them all;
• pretty outwardly queer, when that was a pretty untouchable thing in the industry and the culture, particularly in the US, particularly in the south, cutting a path for all sorts of acts who would follow;
• really kinda hard to pick your favorite song by them and not have it be something else a few days later.

They're such an afterthought for — and shameless indictment of — the actual Hall that they will be inducted the instant somebody realizes they've forgotten to nominate them all along.

I was gonna go with OutKast who have the #1 selling hip-hop album of all-time and 6 highly influential releases. But I'll save them for now cause first the HOF needs the Doggfather.

Because the Rock and Roll HOF is kinda dumb anyway, I nominate Snoop D-oh-double-G. Snoop announced his presence with authority, appearing and somehow even stealing some spotlight from Dr. Dre on Dre's 1992 classic The Chronic. Snoop's got 19 studio releases himself (longevity, check), sold 37M worldwide (commercial appeal, check), and logged 14 top-ten singles (popularity, check). He received 2 Grammy noms (no wins) for his first #1 single "Drop it Like it's Hot".

His debut is littered with hits like "Gin and Juice", "Murder Was The Case" and "Who Am I (What's My Name)". And if Eminem is in, well them come on.

Rock and Roll HOF, I give you SNOOP DOGG.

Thin Lizzy should be in the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame

1) Jailbreak is an essential album and a staple of classic rock radio
2) Twin lead guitars , certainly not the first to do it , Humble Pie probably were , still, Lizzy's twin lead remains to this day hugely influential
3) Live & Dangerous is a classic live album ( sure Tony Visconti did dome tricks ,so what)
4) Ireland's first rock stars on a global scale
5) Phil Lynott was a man ahead of his time , as Dublin as they come
6) Besides Jailbreak album there was Ban Reputation, Black Rose, Johnny The Fox Chinatown and many more
7) Many issues stopped Lizzy for breaking really big in the USA, Brian Robertson getting fucked up in a bar the night before they departed for USA, Phil getting sick , a lot of bad luck of their own making
8)Phil Lynott was a really great song writer

They have had one nomination in 2020 and that was it , shameful

I've been beating the drum (playing the flute?) for Jethro Tull for a while.

When I was a kid, they were considered a strong second-tier British Invasion band. Not in the Beatles-Stones-Zeppelin-Floyd-and sometimes Kinks canon, but not that far behind them. Definitely a bigger deal than say, Donovan, who is deservedly in. They aren't derivative and can be considered pioneers in metal, prog, and even folk rock. They were at least moderately successful critically and commercially.

I can't figure out why they haven't been on a ballot.

All of that and they beat Metallica at the 1989 Grammy Awards in the Best Rock/Metal category, it caused a shit storm

Sometimes they get renominated. Sometimes not.

The ballot we see is really a final ballot after the panel of electors has winnowed out a bunch of other names.

The good news is that The Crane Pool Alternative Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Awesome has set a record for the fastest shark-jumping performance in history.

I offer Styx.

Typical big-name rock band trajectory: Bumpy start, super-high peak, mushy sellout ballad, over-ambitious ego-or-cocaine-fueled concept album that alienated fans not already alienated by the mushy sellout single, ugly semi-breakup, obligatory reunion, obligatory second breakup, drummer death, replacement members touring with for more than 20 years as if nothing happened.

Cons: Always seemed like everyone's sister's favorite band. Tommy Shaw's hair. A little too much keyboard for my tastes. Dennis DeYoung comes off as kind of difficult in every interview. Kilroy Was Here, except for "Mr. Roboto."

Pros: Longevity. Three lead singers. "Blue Collar Man," The Paradise Theater album. Still touring and doing well. A number of classics. Can fill a greatest hits album without filler.

I don't know how you let Heart and Journey in the door and keep Styx and Foreigner out.

Can someone explain to me how Nick Drake is not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? I know, I know, all of his success and influence was long after he had passed, but in the grand scheme of things, there are thousands of musicians who would point to this guy as the person who influenced them to become guitarists and singer/songwriters. He essentially invented the "doomed romantic" musical type.

I think I’ve mentioned before that my wife’s cousin (who passed about two years ago) was married to Styx’s lead guitarist. He’s a nice guy but boy do I hate their music.

Nick Drake, B-52s, Jethro Tull all deserving. I’d add Jonathan Richman and the Pogues. Both sounded different than anyone else, wrote some classic songs and didn’t really care what anyone else thought. I’d also go for King Crimson although I’m not a fan of their ‘80’s Talking Heads sound.

As far as I'm concerned, James Young marrying into the Sharpie family is probably Styx' primary qualification. We may even get him to show up to the induction ceremony!

Tull occupies a weird spot in the R&R Pantheon.

Huge during the latter '70s and early '80s, tons of air play on what was then known as either Progressive Rock Radio or AOR, Album
Oriented Radio, multiple well received albums, big concert tours filling all the usual places. And then, as Progressive/AOR started to
morph into Classic Rock Radio, the logical transition of their music to this more restrictive format along with so many of their
contemporaries simply never happened and I can find no apparent reason why. As a result the memory of them wasn't kept alive
via constant airplay the way lesser bands like Boston and Bad Co still continue to do.

Did Tull or their management price themselves out of these new automated/DJ-less stations with demands for royalties higher than
the corporate owners were willing to pay? Dunno, but what I can say is that I can't remember when the last time I heard a single
JT song on any terrestrial station. It's like they were erased from that world's memory banks.
