It doesn't make sense for her to drop out. Just based on actuarial tables, Trump probably has about a 3-4% chance not to make it the election. Add to that the chance of some sort of conviction and we're looking at maybe 5% that he isn't the candidate for the Republican party in November - 1 in 20 isn't good, but it still seems worthwhile to keep her hat in the ring as long as the money doesn't run out.

Yeah, positioning herself as a backup is probably a good plan.

Of course, if he's prevented from running by the Congress or by the courts, I imagine the party would bend over backwards to let him pick a proxy candidate.

And she just won Vermont!

He's still in the Senate because he has powerful friends. Also, he's indicted, not convicted, and he's already beaten the rap once. Now, there's no way he's going to win the primary; my fervent hope is that Andy Kim, a genuinely good guy, beats nepo-mama Tammy Murphy in that primary. Menendez will be lucky if he gets 10%. But while he's in the Senate, he's important, and the Feds have been lax in trying to trade that importance for a reduced sentence plea deal. Also Democrats, after forcing out Al Franken over essentially nothing, merely the appearance of 'me-too' impropriety, seem to have no appetite to force out a real, honest-to-god corrupt senator (who'd be replaced in a heartbeat by a reliable Democrat anyway).

I wonder how well she would have done if the Pumpkin Perineum one hadn't subtlety ( and sometimes not so subtlety) alluded to her Indian background like one of her supporters:

What a shitshow. If if wanted to, the court could've agreed to hear this frivolous motion two months ago. Apparently, it's imperative that SCOTUS weigh in and decide whether a sitting President can shitfuck somebody's daughter with total immunity and then order the army to kill that daughter's father, also with total immunity. With this court, this issue is a closer call than one would think.

On many days, I think that Charles Pierce is about the only person in America that makes any sense. I wish there were ten of him. One of him would be the President. Five of him would be justices on the Supreme Court -- or six, to play it safe. And the rest would run this forum fairly.

Briefing Trump On Classified Info Before The Election Seems Insane

We must treat this guy the way his track record demands he be treated

I'd like to congratulate whoever for giving me something to worry about that hadn't occurred to me before. From Politico:
The decision would be in keeping with a tradition that dates back to 1952, but it would mark the first time an administration has volunteered to share classified information with a candidate who is facing criminal charges related to the mishandling of classified documents. The Biden administration intends to share intelligence with the former president no matter the outcome of his trial in Florida, according to a senior intelligence official and a second person with knowledge of internal conversations. They, like some others interviewed, were granted anonymity to discuss sensitive internal deliberations.

The sit-down is not legally required, but for the last 72 years, incumbent administrations have tapped the spy agencies to read in the candidates of both major political parties on some of the most pressing threats to the country. While often this is just one meeting, sometimes candidates receive several briefings.
I think this is completely insane. If El Caudillo del Mar-a-Lago wins the presidency, then you can give him intelligence briefings. But to do so now, with the documents case pending in Florida, and with his needing gobs of money from somewhere to pay off the judgments against him, is to indulge his love for reckless grifting beyond what is safe. And to do so just because that's the way it's always done is a shabby excuse for doing so now. I don't know how often it has to be said but the former president* is in no way business as usual. He is sui generis in the threat he poses to the institutions of democracy. He ignores the customary rules of behavior and, therefore, he doesn't deserve the benefits of them. And, Lord help me, I wind up agreeing with John Bolton.
John Bolton, Trump’s former national security adviser and an outspoken critic of his former boss, said the pending court case could justify holding back the candidate briefing for Trump. “We haven’t faced this situation before. But I think the logic could well dictate to Biden he’s not going to give Trump an intelligence briefing,” Bolton said. But for the White House, opting not to extend the tradition to Trump would likely embolden the former president’s claims — in court and outside it — that the intelligence community is biased against him.
Oh, for the love of god, enough with this. Everybody stop stepping gingerly around this guy because he and his followers make you nervous and just do the right thing. Treat him the way his track record dictates he be treated—like a genuine national security threat—and let the chips fall. You people are the government. Defend yourselves.

I would do it, but ban cameras, phones and note taking in the meeting. (So he can't take away anything he can sell)
Then I would hit the high points:
"We have problems with Iran, Hungary, China and Russia. We're working to resolve them"
Then ask him to repeat those four things.
End of meeting.
He can't say he never got one.
"Now get your ass out of here."

These briefings are not as in-depth as you might think. Agents have said that they brief the candidates on security issues but they don't go as far as revealing sources and methods. They wait until a candidate is elected to get into more granular detail. This isn't just for Trump, it's been that way since WW2. They didn't trust Tom Dewey or Adlai Stevenson, either. And Hillary was like, "I knew all this stuff already".

And now the big uproar over the monster's cronies suddenly running the RNC, including his eminently overqualified daughter-in-law. Complaints are starting to trickle in about how the RNC is gonna use its funds to pay the orange sociopath's legal bills.

Oh please for Christ's sake on a lollipop stick! They should see this scam from six planets away. If there's money to be had from pilfering the RNC, that money's gonna end up in the orange scumbag's mattress, not with his lawyers. The money stealing is the entire point of his Presidency. The be all. The is all. And the end all. He couldn't give a sliver of a flying fuck about abortions, immigration or the MAGA retards that have devoted their stupid shitfucking lives to him. It's all about stealing every last penny that isn't nailed down.

When he's elected next Fall, he's gonna install Melania to run the Federal Reserve and he's gonna nominate his c*nt daughter Ivanka for the next SCOTUS vacancy.

Reportedly on RFK, Jr.'s shortlist as a vice-presidential running mate is ... New York Jet Aaron Rogers.

Apparently, he's one of two prospective candidates who didn't say no.

If only that were foreseeable ahead of time!
(the distraction part, not the possible VP nomination specifically)

And then there's this:
CNN reporter Pamela Brown "... was covering the Kentucky Derby for CNN in 2013 when she was introduced to Rodgers, then with the
Green Bay Packers, at a post-Derby party. Hearing that she was a journalist with CNN, Rodgers immediately began attacking the news
media for covering up important stories. Rodgers brought up the tragic killing of 20 children and 6 adults by a gunman at Sandy Hook
Elementary School, claiming it was actually a government inside job and the media was intentionally ignoring it. When Brown questioned
him on the evidence to show this very real shooting was staged, Rodgers began sharing various theories that have been disproven
numerous times. "

Tammy Murphy is dropping out of the race for US Senate in NJ. This is HUGE good news for good guy Andy Kim and gives him a clear path to the nomination.

Whatever you think of his politics, he seems a nice guy and not a corrupt scumbag. That's already pretty hard to find in NJ politics.

She's only 69 years old. I think she'd be a good bet to survive through the next presidential term. (Unless she's having some dire health issues I don't know about?)
