Number 14 (which he obviously won't wear as a Met) with the Astros from 2011 to 2013, and 28 since then, with the Tigers, Diamondbacks, Red Sox, and Dodgers. With the Mets, that number is currently assigned to his manager, Carlos Mendoza. Hmmm...

I like this move at every angle. If the Mets really are a bubble team and JD is worth between 2 and 3 wins, that's huge. And if he misses 50-odd games like he did last year, we should be plenty covered with Vientos/DJ/Baty/Choi, etc. Plus it gives Vientos a little safety net to not be awesome right away. According to Joel Sherman in the Post, Martinez will not be on the Opening Day roster. He's agreed to start the season in the minors with a rehab stint of about ten days.

Very possible. Apparently Choi has a late March opt-out and Stewart has a minor league option, but that seems kinda unlikely.
