Lopez was awful. But somehow, the Mets win the damn thing.

Before his breakout year with the Orioles in 2022, he was 12-31 with a 6.04 ERA.

Atlanta announcers talking about the Braves being destined to win on Hank Aaron night reminds me a bit of Francesa declaring
that there was no way the Yanx would lose to the Sawx on Mickey Mantle's birthday. That was Game 7 ALCS 2004

Geez. Nothing comes easy with these guys.
Even duct tape can't fix stupid. But it can sure muffle the sound.

I'm not sure easy wins over the Braves are going to be in stock in the near future. I'll take a stressful win.
With a fill-in starter signed out of limbo and the back half of the bullpen, coming from behind twice against the class of the division, it really feels like a steal.
Maybe this year the bullpen won't last for the Braves.

Well, nothing's supposed to come easy.
Especially when facing a top team with a fill-in starter, a depleted bullpen, and falling into an early 0-4 deficit.
Tonight was like Win-Win-Win territory if you ask me.

Time of Game = 3:27
Not sure if that's the longest 9-inning game this season, but it probably is.
There were Eight 9-inning games last season that ran north of 3:30
In 2017 there were 258 such games representing 11.5% of all games or about 1 game in 9

At no point did I think the Mets would survive this game.
Baseball is crazy.
Hey. Let’s never pitch Lopez again.

Wow ,nice win to wake up to.i got ny first shingles shot yesterday and was out by 9:15
Re: IGT 04/08 - NYM at ATL - Time to Get Real
Yah I was done when it was still 4-4 there was no chance I was getting through the last half of this one. I'd have died on each of those long fly balls in the bottom of the 9th, too, had I been awake.

Missed this one. Wins a win by the sounds of it. Against Atlanta, I'll take a win anyway it comes.

I'm amazed any of those meatballs he served up didn't end up in fan's gloves as dingers. But it worked. Now let's never use him again in that role, please and thanks.Centerfield wrote: ↑Mon Apr 08, 2024 10:50 pm Interesting tactic. Live middle middle and hope for warning track outs.

A 4-6 start is looking a whole lot better than an 0-5 start.

Big move was leading off the top of the seventh with the score tied 5–5. With lefty AJ Minter coming on, Carlos Mendoza pinch-hit Tyrone Taylor for the lefthanded Joey Wendle. The more obvious switch would have been Zack Short, but Mendoza wasn't just thinking about the immediate matchup. With the team having come back twice to tie against a division leader and now entering the bottom third of the game, he was muscling up to steal a game that was looking like a mismatch six innings earlier.
In the short term, the free-swinging Taylor struck out swinging, as he is wont to do. But the offense and the defense were a little beefier the rest of the way, with Taylor taking over in left and McNeil moved in to play second. Taylor would later single in the eighth to extend the rally that allowed the ultimately decisive eighth run to score, and then make a completely stunningly unlikely game-saving catch in the ninth.

Sounds like Mendoza gets a lot of credit here
Re: IGT 04/08 - NYM at ATL - Time to Get Real
Well, I'm giving him credit on that, certainly.
I don't approve of the ever-shorter workdays for starting pitchers that leaves his 11th best pitcher on the hill with the game on the line time and time again, while his seventh or eighth best pitchers are put through waivers.
I realize everybody is doing it, but somebody has got to stop, and I want it to be my team and my manager. It's a race to the bottom.

This may be an organizational philosophy, how to handle pitchers coming from above, because we said Buck was doing the same thing last year.
I had hoped it was Buck, and Mendoza would bring a fresh approach.
