Schaefer year TWENTY!
And here we go again! Schaefer is the Tabloid Cover Derby's less popular little brother, but it keeps chugging along. Voters will vote, votes will be tallied, awards will be announced, and custom Topps baseball cards will be presented.
I'm probably going to be away from my laptop for most of the Easter weekend, so voting for the first few games of the season may have to wait until Tuesday of next week. But fear not! Rest assured that we will complete our second decade (!) of this fruitless exercise!

If the winner isn't one we expected, it was either a very good year or a very bad one.

It looks like something changed on the server over the offseason, and the Schaefer voting form isn't working as expected.
We do apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. Rest assured, the Schaefer Department in Stockholm is working to address this issue.

Re: Schaefer year TWENTY!
I just received this message from headquarters:
Vi har identifierat och åtgärdat problemet med Schäfer-omröstningen. De skyldiga har identifierats och kommer att straffas hårt.
I believe it means that we're clear to cast our Schaefer votes.

I'll post a "final reminder" on Monday, but I'll post this mini reminder as we head into the weekend. All games through April 29 have seven or eight votes, which might be just about everybody, but the game of the 30th is still a little light. There are still at least a few uncast votes. Please be sure to do your civic duty, Judy!

Re: Schaefer year TWENTY!
I salute Lindor on his two consecutive PotW trophies, even if a total of 4.71 suggests a lean week.
I marvel that, even though I'm far more stingier than the mean with voting points for starting pitchers, no starting pitcher has yet taken home a PotW.
March we onward.

Re: Schaefer year TWENTY!
Last year, a pitcher was Player of the Week seven times. Twice each for Scherzer, Verlander, and Senga, and once for Butto.
Re: Schaefer year TWENTY!
I don't give a lot of points to SPs because I'm not going to give a guy who pitches just 5 innings lot of points.

Re: Schaefer year TWENTY!
It's "just 5 innings " but in those 5 innings, the starter might face 20 batters. Couldn't that be more impactful than a batter's four or five plate appearances?
Re: Schaefer year TWENTY!
Call me an old fuddy duddy but a starting pitcher going 5 innings isn't doing his job, which is to pitch innings. He's doing "just enough." That's not usually high-point worthy.
