Bonnie and Clyde's last meal was a fried bologna sandwich.

But we're not sure if it was Lebanon Bologna.

I never knew until today that Gdansk (Poland) and Danzig (Germany) were the same city.

Eyewear retailer Warby Parker is opening a store in the local mall.
I wonder if they'll let anyone over 25 in there.

Re: The More or Less of Whatnot Thread 2024
Yesterday at BJ's I was waiting online to check out, I found a line with a cashier I checked out with many times ,she's fast, friendly and helpful. The couple in front of me had of course a full cart , looked like a mother and son , anyway cashier scans all the groceries, then the mom says something to her and the cashier dutifully pulls out a couple book and goes through it scanning coupons, this was going on a good while when from behind me a Jamaican lady starts screaming and cursing at the cashier about how helping with coupons isn't her job , well let me say all he'll broke loose after a few back and forths...security and a manager had to hold the cashier back and take her away....anyway my turn to check out ,I made sure to tell a manager that the cashier was just being helpful and that I was in this line because she was working the till.
Anyway, I can see why the Jamaican lady was upset to a point, have your coupons ready to go, but she was way over the top nasty

Yeah, nasty people should stay home and make their family miserable - or
the next-door neighbor. No need to break out your unhappiness on the rest
of us all minding our own business. At least she didn't have gun.

You know, that's a fair point and I never thought about it
Re: The More or Less of Whatnot Thread 2024
Along with the self checkout line, there should be a "Got my shit together" line - no checks or coupons, money or card ready (not in a pocket or purse). The cashier should check they have it in hand before the customer is allowed to place their goods on the belt. Violators should have to move to a self checkout line. The satisfied customers will outnumber the angry ones.

I'm certain that few of us are self-aware enough.

I had a lady in front of me at Shop-rite recently that had five paper
bags worth of stuff that she needed the cashier to do for her while she
supervised the bagging. Then when that was all done she schlubs her
carry-on-luggage-sized purse onto that little 8" x 4" shelf and digs for
a checkbook for thirty seconds. The cashier and I 'exchange glances.'
"The 28th right? Where did April go?" I wanted to tell her that if you
want cash back to make sure you add it to the total NOW!! so we can
keep things moving but I was quiet as a mouse fart. Then, she gets her
receipt and has to examine it for thirty more seconds. More 'glances.'
"You know I can't laugh at the customers!"
"You didn't."
"But you kept giving me that face."
"This face?"
"YES!!"
We cracked up, and the lights dimmed...

Having a problem placing my monthly order of medical supplies. They usually text me a link to the order processing system with a new PIN. But it didn't come this month. I called them, spoke to the techie who said there was a glitch in their system. He said I should get one , but if I don't I won't be able to submit my order before the cutoff. He said the AI in their new software should have caught the error, but didn't.
So much for AI saving lives.

I'm guessing that when the students of F.I.T. stage campus demonstrations they at least do it with style and coordination.

I opened two cans of solid white albacore tuna in water just
NOW!! One Starkist and the other Bumble Bee. The Starkist
is markedly more solid and whiter than the Bumble Bee.

“Charlie the fucking Tuna, man! It’s all supposed to be so innocent, upwardly mobile snob, designer shades, beret, so desperate to show he’s got good taste, except he’s also dyslexic so he gets ‘good taste’ mixed up with ‘tastes good,’ but it’s worse than that! Far, far worse! Charlie really has this like obsessive death wish! Yes! He wants to be caught, processed, put in a can, not just any can, you dig, it has to be Star Kist! suicidal brand loyalty, man, deep parable of consumer capitalism, they won’t be happy with anything less than drift-netting us all, chopping us up and stacking us on the shelves of Supermarket Amerika, and subconsciously, the horrible thing is, is we WANT them to do it…And another thing. Why is there Chicken of the Sea, but no Tuna of the Farm?”

So the Dallas/Texas Rangers won the World Series last fall.
And now the Dallas Mavericks are headed to the NBA finals next week while the Dallas Stars
are in a 2-2 deadlock in a series which will send one team to the NHL finals.
The Dallas Cowboys, meanwhile, last got as far as an NFC championship game
during Bill Clinton's first term.
Just sayin'

Re: The More or Less of Whatnot Thread 2024
Maybe everyone else already knew this. But I had no idea that the singer who is the subject of "Killing me Softly with His Song" is Don McLean of American Pie fame.
The Apple 100 list had me curious about the Lauryn Hill album, so I listened to it on Spotify recently while on my nightly walk. Not my kind of thing. Then I dialed up her version of "Killing me Softly" with the Fugees, which is really good. My mom had the Roberta Flack 45 when I was a kid. I went down a rabbit hole looking into the song and discovered the McLean connection. The Roberta Flack version is actually a cover of a Lori Lieberman song and there is all kinds of drama with the co-songwriters. McLean was performing a song called "Empty Chairs" at the Troubadour in LA and so moved Lieberman who started writing her feelings on a napkin.
