City Connect Hint Drops
Re: City Connect Hint Drops
I suppose I would view these as like the third kits European soccer teams put out, a moneymaker. They wear them a few times a season, and that's it.
Manchester United with their pink kit. That was a big hit

I'd've gone whole-hog on the subway line theme, instead of a passing more-subtle reference among other things. Don't try to do too many thingies.
The breastplate on my home top, for instance, would look something like this:
The fact that M, E, and S lines include the Mets traditional orange and blue colors along with the road gray base is a bonus.
And yeah, I'd've put the Unisphere on the shoulder.

I hope he actually wears that in a game, assuming he wears the CC jersey in a game.
Re: City Connect Hint Drops
These connect “coulda been” and “worse”.
Hope for the best. Expect the Mets.

And maybe it will be, in 2027!
I have to say, I'm satisfied with these. The purple isn't too much, until and unless players wear the long sleeves under the jersey.

These are pretty bland. I'm so glad (sarcasm) that they managed to surpass the really low bar of "these are not a huge shit show". They are not a shit show, just a waste of time.

I really like these.
Yeah, fine, my ideal design would be more purple, more unisphere, but this is still darned good looking!
Oe: it occurs to me that subway lines as racing stripes woulda been fire. But still, these are very nice.

Some of the City Connect unis are horrifying. These are....kinda okay. Reminiscent of the 1905 Giants, just adding a 'C'.
Even duct tape can't fix stupid. But it can sure muffle the sound.

I could see the big N Y C logo making these popular with non-NYM and even non-baseball fans.
And if that happens and they start to be seen on the streets I wonder if the Yanx will drop their
separatist mindset in order to grab a slice of the pie. I mean having the official hat of fat American
overseas tourists and domestic perp walks can only take you so far.

ESPN grades all the City Connect unis that have debuted to date and gives the Mets an "F" grade, the worst possible.
Link to article with pics of all of the unis: https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/397 ... s-uniforms
I kind of agree. My least favorite City Connect Unis, not in any order are the Mets, Rangers, Phillies, Dodgers and D-Backs.

Anyways, I realize this is all mostly subjective and YMMV. My fave City Connects are the Mariners, Pirates and Rockies.

because when I read about all of the sausage-making details and thought processes that went into designing the actual Mets City Connect unis, it came off as stupid sounding to me. It was as if they decided to let Homer Simpson design the Mets City Connect Unis and it actually reminded me of that old vintage-era Simpsons episode where Homer designs a car.batmagadanleadoff wrote: ↑Fri Apr 19, 2024 10:56 am They forgot to attach a small parachute to the top of the caps to symbolize the guy that parachuted into Shea for game 6 of the '86 WS. And they could've also stapled large metal blue or orange corrugated shingles to the back of the shirt to represent, I mean symbolize, the blue and orange corrugated shingles that decorated the Shea exterior. How symbolic would that be? I would've Iiked to see the logos of the many, many newspapers that existed in NYC during the 60s.That would symbolize the NYC press. It covered the Mets. I would've also embroidered Willard Mullin's famous signature on the inside of the shirt. That'd be a secret symbol. Like the Easter eggs that get snuck onto a DVD.

The bridge is a lot more defined as it appears on the helmet, although it's kind of odd how the image stops over the players' temples, cutting off the ends of the bridge.
I would have voted against the Queensboro/59th Street/Ed Koch Bridge, and instead lobbied for the Whitestone Bridge (closer to the Mets home), or even more for the Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge (connects Brooklyn to Queens and connects the Mets to the world).

It certainly increases the size of the name-on-back.
And I'm sure the purple dot on top of the helmet makes Centerfield swoon.

Re: City Connect Hint Drops
Did the Mets do an alternate version of the skyline logo to match the theme? Or is that the purpose the subway token element serves?

I think the token fills that space.

Tigers announced theirs today. You'll never guess-- its black --with a blue tire track on the front, making them look as though they've been run over
Re: City Connect Hint Drops
Pretty amazing how obvious a first impression that is, and they're somehow cool with that.
Re: City Connect Hint Drops
I invite any and all to visit The Ultimate Mets Database, which has been tricked out with a concrete-gray-and-lavender skin to better deepen its city connection.
Re: City Connect Hint Drops
Have they won a single game in these uniforms?
Re: City Connect Hint Drops
Years ago Alex Ferguson banned Manchester United from playing in their third alternate kits ( awful Grey ones) because they didn't win and played awful in them .

Meant to ask this yesterday, I suppose deep down I knew the answer.
