Re: City Connect Hint Drops
I don't think they've won in Friday black, either. Maybe they did on Tuesday Night Mets? I forget already
Re: City Connect Hint Drops
Yeah, blaming the togs would be too easy.
Re: City Connect Hint Drops
To be fair to the City Connects, it's not like they are winning a lot in any of the uniforms.

Now that I know what the purple is for, I mean symbolizes, the City Connect uniforms are so much more nicer to look at. /rollseyes

Gary mentioned during the game how little they have been winning this season in any of the home alternates (blue, black, or C.C.)
... but they did today in the blues.

The Athletic ranks all 28 City Connect uniforms. The Mets unis are ranked 19th out of 28th. I think this ranking is even worse than is sounds given how vomit-inducing ugly the CC unis that are actually ranked below the Mets are.
The Rockies CC's are ranked the best at #1.

They're all a challenge and a jolt. I think a lot of the ones ranked high can go low, and the ones ranked low can go high.
In the field of publicly proclaimed rankings, rarely do rankers stick with to a single standard. We have been American Idol-ized. Generating passionate dissent becomes the point, rather than building consensus.

What do they hate about them? I'd say the Mets are in the middle of stupid ugly City Connects, I'd put em in 3rd place among teams represented by three gigantic initials (WSH, CLE, NYC, PGH)batmagadanleadoff wrote: ↑Mon Jun 17, 2024 8:24 am The Athletic ranks all 28 City Connect uniforms. I think they're opting out. They're above it all. I don't mind that they're not participating in this CC thing (if that's what's happening) but what bothers me is that in my mind, I'm 100% certain that if the Yankees didn't exist, MLB would've made the CC unis mandatory for every single team.

Re: City Connect Hint Drops
The Yankees are very uptight about their "traditions" and the uniform is part of that. The refusal to participate in City Connect is, I'm sure, related to their ongoing refusal to put names on the backs of their uniforms.
It's a bit ironic when you consider that they were the team to introduce uniform numbers about a century ago.

Re: City Connect Hint Drops
If I had no team I was partial to, and I had to pick any of these looks as my everyday uniform (and I guess that's a standard), I'd pick the Mets City Connect look over the Roxxx 94 times out of a 100.

Re: City Connect Hint Drops
I don't think the Mets version is bad at all. I like the shade of grey. Purple is an interesting variation. I think the bridge on the cap is weird, but otherwise I'm okay with it.
But speaking of colors, I remember when there were uniform standards that restricted players to only wearing gear that's a team color. It's why Tsuyoshi Shinjo had to wear an orange protector instead of his trademark red that he wore in Japan. But that obviously changed at some point. Manny Machado was wearing pink sleeves under his Padres jersey this weekend. Harrison Bader wears lavender. I see green shoes and yellow shoes. When did this change?
(P.S.: I don't like the white sleeves that some Mets, including Nimmo and Alvarez, have been wearing. I would prefer if Mets players stuck with wearing blue, and perhaps orange.)

Re: City Connect Hint Drops
I like the Mets City Connect uniforms a lot. I'm not sure I'd put them with the others with the three initials since the city name actually has three initials as opposed PGH, WAS, CLE and the like.
I'd put the Mets in the top tier of these things. I like the bridge on the cap, and that they kept the traditional NY logo on the cap. Glad they stuck with the white pants, since some of the others started with color pants and eased back to white.
Just my opinion, but my top tier would be the Marlins, Mets, Nationals, Cubs, White Sox, and Rockies with the white pants. My bottom tier, with the soon-to-be-replaced Dodgers, Giants, Rays, Cincy and Padres.
The Yankees take themselves a little too seriously. They could have done something that didn't stray too far, like the Cardinals and Angels did.

Mets needed more pops of color than the Nike logo. It looks pretty drab as is. Don't like that bridge hat either.
I like where a team has the balls to step out of their established colors and go for it like Boston did. San Diego really looks like Mexican convenience store.
The "new" Dodgers CCs are launching today I think but leaks all over. Looks pretty good

Re: City Connect Hint Drops
Makes sense to me. There's a fair amount of subjectivity to all of this. One of the big complaints about the Mets CCs is that they went with NYC on the shirt front instead of something more "Queensy".
I'm not sure I agree with that. That'd alienate the other boroughs and "Queens" has a certain connotation that many would find somewhat distasteful. Or if not distasteful, then certainly an aura of LOLMets.

After seeing the new Dodger City Connects, I can say at least they are better than the team's first attempt at it. Lots of funky elements in there, like the number above the team name on the front right, and the name below the number on the back. I don't like the cap logo much.

Yeah. Here's a better pic of the Dodgers CCs. So you could see what those unis actually look like.metsmarathon wrote: ↑Tue Jun 18, 2024 11:44 am i feel like the dodgers shoudl lean HARD into the hollywood motif!

I know that this is all supposed to be fun but I think it's contrived and for the most part, ugly. The unis are forced and stupid. I see the league forcing the players to look like fucking clowns all for another money grab in the name of something else. It's always something else even though it's not. It's always about the money. I'll stick to my original comment: It looks like the league got Homer Simpson to design all these CC unis.

Is that an "05" on Freddie's jersey?
No reason to put the number up there btw. Uni is too heavy up top.
Also no reason for the Dodgers ever to be wearing a home color other that blinding wedding gown white

Re: City Connect Hint Drops
I don't much care for the concept of city connect uniforms in nor the execution of them. Most of them are ugly as sin. Give me the Mets white w/ blue pinstripes any day.
When did the choices get so hard
With so much more at stake
Life gets mighty precious

Re: City Connect Hint Drops
It's a little late in the day to ask, but ... canst anybody tell me what the explicit mission of the City Connect jersey movement is?
Is the existence of the program a tacit admission that most MLB uniforms are largely un-connected to the culture their team's city?
