Spencer Strider underwent surgery on Friday to repair the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow with an internal brace, which was
performed by Dr. Keith Meister in Arlington, and will miss the rest of the 2024 season, the club announced on Saturday.


Supposedly this 'internal brace' surgery is for partial tears in the UCL and has a shorter recovery time than the full replacement (TJS)
procedure. But obviously if he's going to miss the rest of the season it still doesn't mean a quick return to action.

That's three knee injuries for the still just 26 y/o Acuna including two ACL tears, one on each knee.
And while there's no one who thinks that his baby bro has anywhere near his ceiling, it would be
nice if Luisangel turns out to have better ligaments than his brother.

Braves, btw, lost today to the Nats and are just 11-12 in May, 4-8 in their last 12, so it's not like they
were going great prior to this injury. Of course the last time they lost Acuna for the season they won
the World Series so it's probably a bit too early to start writing their obituary. Still, six full games out
of 1st place (Phils also lost today to the Giants) and sliding.

Early Braves KTE for the four game set starting Thursday

Braves coming to town for a four game set but, a bit like the Yanx, they’re not quite the team we’ve come to know in recent years.
Still a decent nine games over .500 but they’re five games under since posting their 26-13 high water mark in the middle of May.
Injuries have been the biggest culprit — currently three position starters plus two rotation starters — but also some of their guys simply
aren’t hitting up to their usual standards.
On the IL: 2B Ozzie Albies, CF Michael Harris, LHP Max Fried, RHP, Spencer Strider, RF Ronald Acuna, plus an assortment of relievers.

But in addition to the injuries ....
* 1B Matt Olson is hitting for a 688 OPS w/13 HRs [993 / 54 last year]
* SS Orlando Arcia: 577 OPS after 741 in ’23
* 3B Austin Riley (currently on paternity leave but should be back by Game 1 or 2): is down 100 OPS pts from his three straight top-10 MVP years
* C Sean Murphy (who missed two months early): 844 to 643
* Only Marcel Ozuna is having a career season: .311/.386/.594 w/28 HRs

So for now, Jerred Kelenic is playing everyday and in CF
They’ve re-acquired Eddie Rosario for LF and Adam Duvall for RF, and are using brief NYM Zack Short at 2B

We’ll Not miss Chris Sale as he’s pitching today’s nightcap of the DH was rained out
So it looks like we’ll get Sale, Charlie Morton, Bryce Elder, and either rookie Spencer Schwellenbach or Reynaldo Lopez who, at age 30, leads the NL with a 2.12 ERA (4.32 career)
