Question on Nimmo

Post by metirish » Thu Jun 13, 2024 8:17 am

I like Nimmo , but all time Met ? What even makes an all time great Mets player ? Has to be more than numbers , right? Are thse numbers really meaningful?

He's been rising in the ranks. Only 19 players have appeared in more Mets games than Nimmo has:

1. Ed Kranepool 1,853
2. David Wright 1,585
3. Jose Reyes 1,365
4. Bud Harrelson 1,322
5. Jerry Grote 1,235
6. Cleon Jones 1,201
7. Howard Johnson 1,154
8. Mookie Wilson 1,116
9. Darryl Strawberry 1,109
10. Edgardo Alfonzo 1,086
11. Lee Mazzilli 979
12. Mike Piazza 972
13. Rusty Staub 942
14. Rey Ordonez 916
15. Daniel Murphy 903
16. Wayne Garrett 883
17. Keith Hernandez 880
18. Carlos Beltran 839
19. Todd Hundley 829
20. Brandon Nimmo 822

I guess it's easy to forget how long he's been around

There's also nobody on that list that is really analagous to him in terms of profile. He's a little bit Mookie, a little bit Mazzilli, and a little bit Wayne Garrett.

The Mets have 96 more games to play this year. He could move up to 15-16 overall by the end of the season

He's been a Met for a long time now. This is his ninth season as a Met.

Strikes out too much. Keith didn’t.

I just dumped nimmo from my fantasy team for the second or third year in a row. Not drafting him again.

I'll give him credit, for several years I thought he was a good 4th outfielder ( hardly an original thought)

You take a guy who is a bit above average at just about everything - he'd even started to get good at CF before he was put in a corner - and you get someone who is really good overall.

Yeah but his strikeouts were dragging my team down. Had to do it.

I still like him as a Met, just not as a CatPow!
