Yeah, the tone isn't exactly going to help Americans find the humanity in each other or anything.

Shouldn't Alito and Thomas be investigated for Tax Evasion?
Just saying.

Joe Biden, master oil trader. Sold oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve when prices were sky-high, thereby putting downward pressure on prices, then refilled the reserve when prices were lower. Making a cool $6 billion for the US Treasury in the process. Fascinating stuff.

There goes the neighborhood.
It looks like Steve Bannon may be coming to a Federal Correctional Institution near me.

imprisonment shouldn’t happen this summer, as the trial-level judge has ordered, because he would be behind bars “for the four-month period leading up to the November election, when millions of Americans look to him for information on important campaign issues,”
“This would also effectively bar Mr. Bannon from serving as a meaningful advisor in the ongoing national campaign,”
Good golly, this summer is gonna suck giant fucking ass crack.

As a GOV poll participant, I get some advance findings.
This one is chilling, but not surprising (released to day):
58% of Republicans told us that convicted felons should be allowed to be president. That marks a 41-point increase over two months.

That is a pretty dumb question on the part of the pollster. Of course they are ALLOWED - that is a question of constitutional law, why are we polling people on that? The poll could very well reflect increased education on that point of law driven by current events rather than a change in opinion. A better question would he "would you consider voting for a convicted felon?"

Perhaps the poll sought to determine whether people thought that a convicted felon should be permitted to run for President, but MFS62 didn't phrase his post as precisely as he could have. Or the quote MFS62 received and then re-posted here wasn't precisely phrased by the polling outfit.

This makes more sense.

Of course, the US Constitution does not prohibit a convicted felon from holding the President's office. Not only that, but the President could, technically, hold the President's office while incarcerated so far as the Constitution is concerned. My guess is that the poll was asking if the public is OK with that.

This.
The sentence that came to me and I re-posted is a summary of the original poll questions. There were several phrased with different nuances- can he run, should he run, etc. This was their interpretation of the summary poll results, and as you stated, wasn't done well.
But what got me was in the increase since his convictions. Maybe they read the stories and saw that he is not prohibited. But I think his conviction hardened the resolve of his supporters. And that is scary.

BTW, this poll is quoted by many news media outlets (tv, press). I hope they saw the problems with it that you guys did.

It can't get more fucked up than this. If there's any truth to this, the American electorate is mostly made up of stupid fucking morons. (And why should that be surprising? Most people are stupid fucking morons.)

Trump trusted more than Biden on democracy among key swing-state voters

A poll shows that Americans rate threats to democracy as an important issue, but that the president has yet to convince them he is the one to defend it.

Swing State Polling

Florida doesn't even qualify as a swing state anymore. Whaddya expect? It was a slavery state and then a Jim Crow state and geographically, deeper South than any other deep South state. If it didn't have Miami and Disney World to hide behind, everyone would plainly see Florida for the shitbag, backwoods, backwards, redneck retard state that it actually is. And now they're banning books and terrorizing librarians, too.

Some of the cable news reporters are speculating that DT will announce his running mate tomorrow, to overshadow any bad press from the debate.

The New York Times (briefly) cited a "flood of pro-Israel money" for the D primary loss last night of Bronx/Westchester Rep Jamaal Bowman (he lost 56/44%).
They have since deleted the sub-headline reference without comment.

Well, that's kinda true. AIPAC (the Israeli lobbying arm) spent $14 million of PAC money to defeat Bowman, helping to make this the most expensive congressional primary in history.

For the second time in a row my friend and former coworker Sarah Klee Hood lost in her attempt to become the Democratic nominee for Congress in my district. I was rooting for her but ultimately she lost by quite a sizable margin, unlike her 2022 attempt where she fell just a few thousand votes short.

Trump is apparently now asking that Biden take a drug test ahead of the debate - The Biden team's response ("no") is completely unimaginative. Why not take the opportunity to do what Trump is doing and make a sound byte here? "President Biden will agree to be drug tested and long as Mr Trump will agree in turn to be hooked up to a polygraph during the debate"

I'm not sure a polygraph would work on the former president.

Had to drive past Danbury Prison today. There were tv cameras, reporters and a crowd MAGA creatures (including MTG and Bernard Kerrick) there in support of Steve Bannon, who starts a four month sentence there today.
Who demonstrates in support of Bannon? What's next? Supporting Leprosy?

Fucked up traffic and made me late for my Doctor's appointment, too.

Here's the report of the demonstration I had to drive through, reported in the New Republic via Yahoo:
As Steve Bannon turned himself in to Danbury federal prison in Connecticut on Monday to serve out a four-month stint for refusing to testify to Congress for his role in the January 6, 2021, Capitol insurrection, demonstrators led by ruckus royalty Anarchy Princess carried signs reading, “Bleach blonde bad built butch body” behind Bannon ally Marjorie Taylor Greene and smirkingly chanted, “Lock him up” against competing chants of “USA,” which inadvertently aided in the cacophony.

Demonstrators drowned out the MAGA press conference with cowbells and chants, making Bannon’s last words before heading off to the big house indecipherable.

This story's not loco at all.

Rudy Giuliani is disbarred in NY state.
“The seriousness of respondent’s misconduct cannot be overstated,” a state appeals court said in a ruling, adding that Giuliani “baselessly attacked and undermined the integrity of this country’s electoral process.”

[***]

The court ordered Giuliani to be “disbarred from the practice of law, effective immediately, and until the further order of this Court, and his name stricken from the roll of attorneys and counselors-at-law in the State of New York.”
