Who's your All-Star?
Re: Who's your All-Star?
Back to Severino.
Re: Who's your All-Star?
Pete Alonso is your sole 2024 Mets All-Star, pending injury replacement mishegas.
Hope for the best. Expect the Mets.
Re: Who's your All-Star?
Well, I can't vote Severino anymore as he is pedestrian all of a sudden. Martinez fell off a bit. So, I've switched my vote to ...
Francisco Lindor.
Francisco Lindor.
Re: Who's your All-Star?
Way back when Alonso, Nimmo, McNelson, were all hitting in the .210s, Lindor was lowest of them all, below .200, but he has passed them all to climb up to .250 just ahead of Alonso and Nimmo.
McNickles, on the other hand, hasn't moved that needle at all.

Good for Pete. I was hoping for Nimmo to get a shot, and I think Lindor deserves it, too. Isn’t Betts out? Maybe Lindor can take his place.
Re: Who's your All-Star?
Lindor, despite two top-ten MVP seasons, has yet to make an All-Star team as a Met.
I'd say he's moving toward becoming the greatest-ever Met never make the All-Stars, but that title is currently held by teammate Brandon Nimmo, who is extending his lead.

Re: Who's your All-Star?
Nimmo was more deserving, but Nimmo won't be an entertaining contestant at the Home Run Derby. I have to think that entered into it.
(Yes, I know that you don't have to be an All-Star to participate in the Derby)
Even duct tape can't fix stupid. But it can sure muffle the sound.
Re: Who's your All-Star?
Pete is 6th on the Mets in WAR.
Lindor is the only player in the top 20 of fWAR not to make it.
MLB gave the 3d SS spot to Abrams to fill the WSH slot and needed a 1B + HR Derby participant so they picked Pete even though there were FIVE better choices.

Re: Who's your All-Star?
Kind of a strange choice given that the competition among hard-hittin' 1st basemen is often the toughest.
Might be a dearth of them this season (I'd have to check) but Pete wouldn't have been in my first three NYM options.
Nimmo, Lindor, or Severino in some order or another would be above Pete for me.

Pete has also announced that he will participate in the HR Derby
Not a surprise.

I'd say it's John Olerud. Hope you don't think this post is also a fight.

Re: Who's your All-Star?
Also, Nimmo never had a full season where he was clearly all-star caliber. Not that I'm knocking him. He's an asset and a nifty player to have on your team. Just pointing out his limits. Also, the way "all star" is defined is pretty fucking stupid. An all star is essentially the player who's had the best April and May. An all star is also the best player on a team through the end of June even if that player is the 120th best player in the league.batmagadanleadoff wrote: ↑Sun Jul 07, 2024 9:28 pmI'd say it's John Olerud. Tough gig for Olerud who was AS/MVP caliber for three straight years but played first base for the Mets during the peak of the steroids era.
Re: Who's your All-Star?
Not only does an injured Mookie Betts allow Francisco Lindor fans some hope, but Fernando Tatis, Jr. is also not likely to be available, keeping Brandon Nimmo fans dreaming of a debut for their hero.Marshmallowmilkshake wrote: ↑Sun Jul 07, 2024 6:17 pm Good for Pete. Re: Who's your All-Star?
Alonso for the time being screws over Christian Walker who's having a superior year across the board
Re: Who's your All-Star?
I feel that way also
But good for Pete
I wonder if they picked Pete to ensure his participation in the HR derby?

Consensus on Buster Olney's podcast today was that Lindor is likely to be added -- and some love thrown Nimmo's way, too!

Re: Who's your All-Star?
Please. If MLB told Alonso that he could participate in the HR Derby only if he paid in a quarter of a million dollars and dressed up as Lady Met for the Derby, he'd be there.

Me too
I thought Severino or Nimmo would be the pick, not so much Lindor

Your 2024 Mets — theoretical All-Stars all over the place, but slam-dunk All-Stars nowhere to be found
(even though Francisco Lindor is like fifth in WAR in all of baseball).
