More importantly, in a game that's going to help the Mets one way or another, the Padres and Braves are scoreless in the bottom of the fourth at Petco.

If the Braves win, the Mets get a game of breathing room between them and the Padres, .001 behind them but virtually tied for the third wild card spot.

If the Padres win, the Mets gain a game on the team currently holding the top wild card spot, four games ahead at the start of the evening.

It was a Braves win last night, allowing the Mets not only to pull a full game ahead of the Padres, who are now tied with Arizona, a game out of the money, but to also pull into a dead heat with the Cardinals for the second wild card spot.

The Pads meet Atlanta again today, in a late afternoon start on the West Coast, that'll be 7:15 in the evening for us in the East. Dylan Cease faces 2024 All-Star Reynaldo Lopez, and again, the Mets kinda win no matter what the outcome, so root for extra innings. But root!
