Re: Maton!
4.28 ERA, 97 ERA+ for his career.
Why even bother. The goal is to IMPROVE the bullpen.

Re: Maton!
What do you think the ERA has been for the worst guy in the Mets bullpen this season?
Re: Maton!
One is left to wonder why Lucchesi was never seriously considered as a reliever.
Re: Maton!
I agree. He wasn't doing particularly well at Syracuse (4.20 ERA), but I'd have tried him in the pen before cutting him.
As for Maton, paying the full salary of somebody whose walk and home rates have shot up and whose strikeout rate has plummeted seems pointless. We are currently playing a likely selling team with significantly better relievers than this guy; I'd be treating their GM to the best food/drink available at Citi.

I'd be trying Megill in the pen right now. And if Christian Scott is on an innings limit, I'd have him in the pen and Butto warming the seat for Senga in the rotation.

So much for thinking I was simply editing the previous post.
Re: Maton!
Phil will fill jersey No. 88, shifting third base coach Mike Sarbaugh to 86.
Hope for the best. Expect the Mets.

Re: Maton!
Joey Lucchesi passed through waivers and has been outrighted to Syracuse.
Hope for the best. Expect the Mets.

Re: Maton!
I'm glad he's still in the organization.
Re: Maton!
Lucchesi doesn't have enough major-league experience for his salary to be guaranteed if he opted for free agency, so in hindsight he was never going anywhere. The bullpen option is still on the table, though.
