Festive Memories of Matt Festa

Post by Edgy MD » Thu Jul 11, 2024 11:41 pm

Apparently there are somehow more important things in life than getting another chance to lower a 36.00 Mets ERA, and so Matt Festa has signed a minor-league deal to be a Texas Ranger.

One of six pitchers (really five since one is Luis Torres) to make just one appearance this season: also Eric Orze, Phil Maton, Joey Lucchesi, Julio Teheran

In all 31 pitchers have appeared In a NYM uni in 2024 (92 games). 12 (11) of them haven't, and several won't, hit double digit innings.
Orze: 0.0 (didn't retire a batter)
Torrens: 0.1
Festa: 1.0 (gone)
Maton: 1.0
Teheran: 2.2 (gone)
Lucchesi: 4.1 (DFA)
Adcock: 4.1 (40-man)
Tyler Jay: 4.2 (40)
Cole Suiser: 4.2 (40)
Grant Hartwig: 6.2 (IL)
Michael Tonkin: 7.0 (gone)
Yohan Ramirez: 8.1 (gone)

Yeah, my main memory is that he (1) he's a Brooklyn Yankee lover, which is always horribly suspect; and (2) he's one of a string of guys in 2024 that arrived and immediately and counterproductively got thrown in the deep end of the pool, sacrificing a perfectly winnable game at the altar of load management.

Gary Cohen used every opportunity to insert things like 'feats of strength' and 'airing of grievances' into his play-by-play, because he knew Festa was going to be a tiny waterbug skittering across the pond of the Mets 2024 season, leaving little trace of his existence.
Even duct tape can't fix stupid. But it can sure muffle the sound.

He was no Ty Adcock.
Hope for the best. Expect the Mets.

Consider yourself lucky to have missed his brief tenure.
When did the choices get so hard
With so much more at stake
Life gets mighty precious
When there's less of it to waste
