I'm guessing that he didn't wanna be here for cultural reasons. He's a southern boy. Maybe even a redneck and almost certainly a Trump voter. He probably bristled at having to wear covid masks. He's more at home in Texas.

There's no evidence in the public record that deGrom ever went back to the Mets to see if they'd match or top the Rangers' offer. Did Cohen signal that his initial offer would, more or less, be his best offer? Did deGrom purposely avoid the Mets after the Rangers tendered their offer for fear that the Mets would top Texas's offer, putting deGrom in an awkward spot because he preferred Texas over NY all along? Remarkably, nobody has yet to press deGrom to unearth these answers. Hard to believe given the size of deGrom's contract and that at the time of the Texas signing, he was universally regarded as baseball's best pitcher when healthy.

Walker was designated for assignment last week in order for the Mets to create room on the 40-man roster following the acquisition of Ryne Stanek, so it's likely not much, if anything beyond some Cranebucks..

I remember that article from when it was first published. It doesn't answer any of the questions I raised in my previous post in this thread. And I don't believe a single word of anything deGrom says in that article. None of it makes any sense. It's disingenuous. I figure that deGrom's smart enough to know what he should say publicly to appear as diplomatic as possible. And if he didn't know what to say, then he was coached by his handlers and advisors.

I'm not knocking deGrom personally. He was a good guy here and never made any trouble as far as I can see. And he had the right to choose to play for Texas if that was his preference.

All to say, I don't believe deGrom was somehow desperate to get out of here so much that if the Rangers were to ask him to waive the no-trade he wouldn't consider it.
