That inning (bottom 5th) could have been a lot worse.
A couple of hard hit balls w/runners on, but luck and good defense kept the Rox to one run.

During the 1st inning double-fest, Gary mentioned the similar start to 2020 1st round Game 4 playoff game vs StL
But then (at least three times now) he said today was the "first time in Mets history" that they've begun a game with four XBHs
But that playoff game did exactly that and even a little better, not just four straight doubles but five in the first six NYM batters.

Timo - Alfonzo - Piazza - Ventura doubled to start bottom one. Then, following a FC from Zeile, a Benny Agbayani 2B the 4th run of
the inning and would have plated a fifth but Zeile was thrown out at home so he was like the goat of the inning.
But in the 2nd the Mets loaded the bases w/2 outs and Zeile followed with a two run 2B

Peterson has enough stuff to be more than a five inning pitcher.
Couldn't they have left him in , just to stretch him out?
(climbing down off my soapbox)
The Mets are having one of those games where each batter in the lineup has at least one hit.

I think they have some relievers they want to look at before some hard decisions come up.

Stanek looks ... good(?!).

Add-on runs are nice, too.

I just realized I was on dog-walk-pause delay and just went real
time. 9-1 through eight seems like an adequate mile-high lead.

For now, at least.

But Peterson was pitching at "home". He's from Aurora, Colorado. I'm sure if his folks were there they went home happy.

Peterson reportedly had 30 friends and family on hand.

Colorado probably would love to have him. A guy who honed his craft at Rockies altitude, and somehow able to pitch winning ball there, despite not having elite velocity.

Catching up on some games. This was a quality romp. Rather enjoyable. Vientos is good. I'm surprised that of the Big Three (or Four if you include Mauricio) that he's the 2024 breakout.
