I keep a car until the universe conspires to make it unusable. My Mazda 3 has spent half its lifetime with a cracked windshield.

When have you come the closest to an animal taking your life? I don't mean that time you were down with malaria because of a skeeter bite. That should count, but I want that story where the coyote was stalking you.

I was at the Xcaret reserve in Mexico.

This is when it was just a place to preserve the flora and fauna of Central and South from advancing civilization. It was built by a rich South American and this was before it was built up.
My wife and I were walking on a path through the woods and came face to face with a leopard. It was behind a five foot high chicken wire fence - only. It was less than ten feet away. I remembered how high my house cat could jump and realized we should beat a hasty retreat, wondering when was the last time it had been fed.

I am eternally sorry for not sticking to the true answer/ask format
that is in place and I'm ready for all the forum blow back that may
ensue for my not doing so in reaction to this post.

I like tomato sauce based sausage and peppers. But...

This evening I'm having sliced hot sausage, peppers, onions, garlic
red potato and mushrooms with no sauce.

we could have a how do you like your sausage thread.
Or, as in the old forum, an answer/ask spin-off thread.

Personally, I think the off topic ramblings are funny.

Not an allergy per se but I no longer consume any product sweetened with aspartame (aka Nutrisweet) because it aggravates my psoriasis.

For Italian sausage, yes, grilled, with sauteed onions and peppers and perhaps a bit of spicy mustard and/or sauerkraut as well. Or, alternately, with marinara and mozzarella and broiled, but in that case, without the veggies on top.

I keep only the books I deem good enough that I might re-read them or gift them to folks who would appreciate them. We have several large bookshelves filled with them around the house.

Fam briefly adopted an insane dog who was way too rambunctious to keep and whom the parents shortly "took to a farm." My memory is being in the bathtub when he burst in, took a wet washcloth in his mouth and whipped it around, flinging water everywhere.

Since I have trouble gripping things, my favorite gadget is a rubber thingie that fits around bottle tops to open the cap.
My first pets were three turtles I named Hoppy, Lucky and Johnnie after the Hopalong Cassidy characters.

What's great about sausages is that you can make a full main course meal from them, they're very easy to cook and can be cooked many ways. You can even boil them though that would probably by my least favorite option.

A quick and easy way to cook sausages and at the same time, cut down on the mess and clean-up is to cook them in a toaster oven. Depending on how you set your settings, they can come out of the toaster tasting as if they were cooked on an outdoor grill.

In a way I guess. I was the female Democrat seat for my township. Not exactly elected, but approved. Not really my idea either.

I was also elected Church Council secretary last January since I missed the meeting. But I fully expected that.

I'm going to have to pass on this one. I'm at home alone, and looking out my back door and front door, I don't see any other humans.

So the question stands...

The question clearly said "in proximity" but whatever.

Yes, I've used AI. Mostly to generate silly pictures, but also to name a sandwich and to write a screenplay about an interesting event in the life of one of my girlfriend's ancestors. (The screenplay was awful.)

Not presently. Was getting The New Yorker not too long ago but that ran out. I found that it mocked me as I spend quite a lot of time reading books and magazines just get in the way.

I attended my 20th reunion in 2011. It was nice catching up with people I had mostly forgotten about.

My favorite summer fruit is watermelon.

I haven't been mugged, but robbed in this way. We lived in Milford, Conn. and back in the 1980s when you bought gas and used your credit card, it was on carbon paper and the clerk would rip off the top one for you and the store got the bottom sheet, which had the carbon impression. A gas station, which might have been Mobil, folded back the corner of the carbon paper so the number that was on my sheet did not get transferred to the bottom sheet. After we left he unfolded the carbon paper and wrote a higher number right on the carbon, so it transferred to the bottom sheet. Anyone looking at the bottom sheet would not know something would be wrong. So the bill came with the higher number on it, and I called the company and explained that I could not fit $50 worth of gas in the Dodge Colt even if I filled the tank, the trunk and the back seat. I was a reporter at the time and we had to do morning checks at the police department, and sure enough not long after that there was an arrest at the gas station for theft. So I suspect we were not alone.

Do you collect anything fun or quirky?

Guitars and musical instruments! I have six guitars, a mandolin, a dulcimer, a banjelele (a ukelele sized banjo) and a bouzouki. I can play a tune reasonably well on all of them except the banjelele, of which I've never gotten a proper sound.

Occasionally, as the need and/or opportunity arises. I know some people wake up from a nap feeling worse than before, but I'm not one of those people. Even a twenty-minute nap can reinvigorate me for six or more hours.

Have you ever cut down a tree?
