I don't want to know what a Sod Poodle is.

Lots of minor league teams now have those two-word, wonky marketing department-created names that exist more to sell merchandise than to actually mean anything.
Sod Poodles
Trash Pandas
Jumbo Shrimp
Rumble Ponies
Etc.

The Dodgers' AAA team in Oklahoma City is for this season called the "Oklahoma City Baseball Club" while it awaits a stupid new name that will announce after the year.
They are transitioning from the Oklahoma City Dodgers which was a boring name. Used to be known as the Red Hawks and before that the 89ers.

I am well aware of that. Almost all of them come out of the same (SD-based IIRC) marketing agency which takes time to give each of their
client teams a name that is totally unique ... and also one that is just like every other one of their client teams.
I just don't know, and don't want to think about, what a Sod Poodle might be.

That one has some semblance of a tie to their city. Binghamton is where they used to make carnival carousels, and the name is a tribute to the horses on them.

Oh, then to replace that we also have
Space Cowboys
Yard Goats
Blue Wahoos

Another one with a historical tie - yard goats are the engines that move trains in a depot, and Hartford used to be a big railroad hub. The name was voted on by the locals.

They all have a semblance of a tie to the city.
That doesn't change the reality that they all deliberately chose a name that diminishes, infantalizes, and sometimes even emasculates the player for the sake of tired and cliched marketability through goofiness.
I blame Max Klinger and his Mud Hens hat.

Jeff Conine, proud papa.
Hope for the best. Expect the Mets.
Re: Get off of My Lawn!: Rico Brogna and Mets in Retirement, 2024
Without looking it up what season did Conine briefly play for the Mets ?
I was surprised as I would have guessed an earlier year

My guess is 2007. I seem to associate it with late-season desperation.
Re: Get off of My Lawn!: Rico Brogna and Mets in Retirement, 2024
Yes 2007 ,
On August 20, 2007, Conine was traded to the Mets for minor leaguers Sean Henry and Jose Castro.[18] Though he hit an RBI single in his first at-bat as a Met,[19] he proved less successful in that role with the Mets, batting just .195 over 21 games with his new club.[1] On September 20, Conine announced that he was considering retirement before his final series in South Florida. He played his final game on September 30 against the Marlins, replacing an injured Carlos Delgado at first base.

Matt Harvey wants to hang with us again.
https://www.mlb.com/news/matt-harvey-ho ... -with-metsAs Matt Harvey prepared to film a promotional scoreboard video early Saturday afternoon at Citi Field, a team staffer handed him a Mets jersey to wear. Struggling for a moment to slip his arm into the sleeve, Harvey smiled.
“It’s been a while,” he said.
Although Harvey had been to several prior games this season, he has not been much of a presence at Citi Field for many years. Now retired from his playing career for good, however, Harvey hopes to become more of one. On Saturday alone, Harvey filmed the scoreboard video as well as a social media reel, recorded a podcast and conducted an interview. He has told vice president of alumni relations Jay Horwitz that he’d like to be as involved as possible.
Hope for the best. Expect the Mets.

That's great. Nobody ever associated Lucas with social skills, but I wish him the best.

Excited for Duda. I'd been hanging around on linkedin wondering if he'd get a second career
