Catcher Danny Jansen, made baseball history today by becoming the first major leaguer to play for both teams in the same game.
The unusual feat became possible after the June 26 game between the Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays was suspended by rain. Jansen played for Toronto at the time but was then traded to Boston on July 27.
He got a hit today for Boston.

I had read about the possibility of that a week or two ago, but I forgot to check up on it.
Timeline:

June 26: Jansen was at the plate with an 0-1 count in the 2nd inning of a game against the Red Sox when rain hit and the game eventually suspended

June 27: Traded to the Red Sox for prospects

Today: The June 26 game was picked up where it left off so the Jays had to send up a pinch-hitter for the continuation of Jansen's AB
In the bottom half of the inning the Red Sox inserted Jansen into the game batting 7th which made him up third in the 2nd inning,
so he winds up not just playing for both teams in the same game but coming to the plate in both the top and bottom half of the same inning!!

Phils won in the 10th
Yanx won
Padres are leading 7-2 in the 6th
Atlanta was up 9-1 in the 2nd when the rain hit, so they'll likely win that one eventually
Cubs up big on Pitt (15-6)

So not a great night as things are shaping up.

From SNY:
During yesterday’s Cubs-Pirates game, Chicago SP Justin Steele was given the chance to wash his hands after umpires felt his hands were too sticky.
Two months ago, with Edwin Díaz on the mound in Chicago, the Mets’ closer was not given a chance to wash his hands after umpires felt his hands was too sticky.
Vic Carapazza and Adam Hamari are the common thread between the two instances as they were on the crew for both of these games.
Mets fans should be pissed, and bombard the League office with emails and phone calls.

Yesterday's Rangers-White Sox game in Chicago was suspended yesterday after four pitches! The leadoff batter for the Rangers, Marcus Semien, had a 2-2 count when the tarp went on the field. The game will be resumed this afternoon.

It looks like Garrett Crochet, who threw the four pitches yesterday, will resume his start today.

I recall a Mets game a few years ago (2021?) where Marcus Strohman was the starter and the game was called in the top of the first. He ended up missing his turn in the rotation. I think he threw seven pitches? Not sure.

It took 33 years to get rid of Angel Hernandez. Never too early to get those cards and letters going for Carpazza nd Humari.

Nats have five stolen bases against the Yanx [Rodon and A. Wells] in the first two innings.
4-1 Nats, top of 3

And Rodon is a lefty pitcher. He must have a really terrible move to first.

Washington runners were also advanced via a wild pitch and a balk.
And, at one point, James Wood (he has three of the five) stole 2nd and 3rd on consecutive pitches.

Currently 5-2, bottom 6

The Nats would have a better hold on this game had they not ass-clowned their way into three outs on the bases.
The most recent was a shot which one-hopped the CF wall with two on but then became an 8-6-2-6-3-2-5-4 DP
No runs scored. Batter credited with a single, but at least he wasn't tripled off.

Still 5-2, top 9
I give them a 20% chance of holding on.

Catcher Danny Jansen has, in a sense, outdone Joel Youngblood.

Youngblood had been the only player to appear for two teams in one day. Jansen, not only did that, but he appeared for two teams in the same game.

His is a little more technical as the two teams (Toronto and Boston) were finishing off a postponed game from two months earlier. He had swapped sides in the interim.

That feat was noted up the thread here a bit.
Jansen not only played for both teams in one game but he came to the plate for each in the same inning!!

“But you do got Juan Soto batting behind you. They can’t get around you a little bit. They gotta pitch to the brother, you understand what I’m saying, because you’ve got Soto waiting in the wings. So, all of those things facilitate Aaron Judge being who he is.” -- Stephen A. Smith, ESPN

Ummm, except Stephen (before we even consider the improper English from someone who writes and speaks for a living) that Soto bats Before Judge! He's hit 2nd in every single game he's played this season and the lack of a clean-up hitter to bat behind Judge, especially when Giancarlo Stanton is out which has been often, has been a weak spot and a major topic for discussion surrounding the Yanx all year long.

This sort of reminds me of when I was in my early teens and just starting to get into music. When I first started watching the Grammy awards trying to get a sense of who's who I'd get pissed off because they essentially ignored Rock & Roll in favor of bubblegum pop - And the Grammy goes to ... The Star Land Vocal Band!!. Then, when they did start acknowledging R&R and I saw who they were giving the awards to, I wanted them to go back to ignoring it.
So on the one hand it's a shame that the biggest sports monster in the country barely acknowledges that baseball exists. On the other, when they do talk about baseball it's with such shallowness, ignorance, or outright contempt that it would be better if they'd just ignore it entirely.

S.A.S. plays at being a Yanqui fan and acts like a wounded animal every September or October when their season ends short of the WS. But the above makes it clear he doesn't actually follow the team or watch any games. And it would be one thing if he was the only one paid to discuss sports who displays his/her MLB ignorance on a regular basis, but he has a whole lot of company.

First of a four game Braves/Phils series in Philly starting tonight.
If the Braves win tonight they'd close the gap down to 4.0 games, the closest they've been since mid-May.
An unlikely sweep would get it down to a single game.
Atlanta has righted its ship somehow even as inuries pile up [12-5 over their last 17] after being a below .500 team for over three months.

Braves jumped out to a 4-0 lead but a 6th inning 3R HR by Brandon looks like he live in a Marsh ruined Charlie Morton's night
And now a 2R HR by Castellanos makes it 5-4 Phils heading for the 8th.

The Gentleman from Verona:
Samuel Aldegheri is slated to start for the Angels vs the Mariners tonight and when he does he'll become the first ML pitcher born and raised in Italy.
San Remo, Italy born Alex Liddi, who played 61 games for the Mariners between 2011 and 2013, was the last Italian position player (IF/OF)
The 22 y/o Aldegheri was playing an Italian league as recently as 2020. Since then he's hit various stops first in the Philly system and now with the Rocket City Trash Pandas (no, really, that's the team name) the AA affiliate for LAA. Madison, LA in case you're wondering cuz I certainly was (I guess it's near Huntsville).

Elsewhere: Milwaukee and the Reds have a DH today. Brewers won the day game in the 10th.
Sand Diego is in Tampa this weekend.
Cardinals @ Yanquis
And of course it's Game 2-of-4 for Braves @ Phillies

Clayton Kershaw left his start in the second inning due to a bone spur;

I guess that qualifies him to run for President one day.

Pretty much the whole top of the NL won their games yesterday. Mets did gain a game on the DBacks, though.

Phils out in the 8th, still tied.
So it's a one inning (at a time) contest to see who has the most successful inning going forward.
