There's three!

Magic number for that wild card spot is down to 33.

Not including today, since Peterson's ERA reached its high point of 4.32 on June 12, it has been 2.49 in 12 starts. It is 1.71 for the month of August.
Don't look now but both Peterson and Manaea have been pitching like Cy Young award candidates for several weeks.

Wow. What a nice win.

Great bounceback for the Mets, and particularly Diaz.

They play the good teams tough (6-4 against the O's, Pads and Snakes). Watch them drop 2 of 3 to the White Sox.
Even duct tape can't fix stupid. But it can sure muffle the sound.

That ain't believin'.

With the Cards beating the Pads, the Mets pull within five games of San Diego as well as six of Arizona. It's early in Philadelphia, but the Braves lead 1-0 there.

Taking six of 10 against the Orioles, Padres, and Diamondbacks, with the latter two series on the road, is sub-optimal, but it's a workable situation that could have wiped them out. These are playoff-level matchups and just slowing down the two hottest teams in baseball is worth something

The late start and therefore the lack of innings (just 92 to date) is really the only thing keeping Peterson out of CY consideration.

It's very possible. That's baseball. It wouldn't even be much of a surprise. At least not to me, anyways.

I like the current Mets squad. I like the current squad very much so even though there's still room for improvement. There always is. Even on the juggernaut practically flawless 1986 Mets, Rafael Santana was a crappy hitter. I think that right now, as comprised, the Mets are a playoff contender -- heck, not a contender -- an actual bona fide playoff caliber team. I don't think it's entirely accurate to guess what the Mets might do going forward based on their overall season record. Because I believe that the Mets are no longer the team that they were in April and May. But the Mets awful early season showing does serve to explain why right now, the Mets are on the outside looking in at the playoffs. The lesson, the obvious lesson here, the lesson that everybody here already knows, is that the games played in April count just as much as the games played in September. If the Mets miss the playoffs this season, I think that their undoing will have been their terrible early start, when Lindor, who is now suddenly in the MVP conversation, went through the worst stretch of his career, when Martinez hadn't yet joined the team and when Baty instead of the awesomely ascendant Vientos, was getting all of the at bats at third base.

Closed to within three games of the Braves, who continue on to play three more in Philadelphia this weekend.

A strong matchup tomorrow with Reynaldo López going against Ranger Suarez.

An interesting side note to the game was Mendoza replacing Torrens with Alvarez strictly to catch Diaz in bottom 9th
No double switch was employed so Alvarez stayed in Torrens's lineup slot which would have led off a potential top 10th if the 'backs tied it up
but you don't make that move unless you also think it'll help out the pitcher also, even if it's just a psychological boost.

https://www.linkedin.com/in/jenniferbrownme/ (I'm very skeptical!)

Google Image Search thinks she might be Kaley Cuoco. Or Hillary Duff. Or someone named Monica Keena Mouse, who may or may not be a celebrity of some sort.

Well, who ever Backpack Girl is, I hope she'll never finds us. In

In turn, I'll demand a peek inside her backpack.

I think that when they make Backpack Girl: The Movie, they should get Monica Keena Mouse to play the lead.
