IGT 8/30 White City Matchup Mets vs White Sox 8:10 Megill
Re: IGT 8/30 White City Matchup Mets vs White Sox 8:10 Megill
Looks like they're trying to get four innings out of four guys tonight.
I don't like hoping that four different guys have it. I guess Stanek is next. He hasn't appeared in a week.

I have a screen shot of him sluggin' a beer. We can use this laterEdgy MD wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 10:07 pmWhat's killing me is that he's sitting next to perhaps the loveliest young woman in Chicago, and she's got a sad face on because the Sox are losing, and instead of paying attention to her, he's ignoring her and acting all, "Hey, look at me being the worst cliche of a sports dork!"

Did you see Vientos caught that popup and mimed falling into the net like Taylor?

Gosh, Robert got off a weak throw, but as least he got rid of it slowly.

Why Diaz now. This is his fourth straight game over a 5 days span. If Stanek or Young can't be trusted to get 3 outs against the worst hitting team in MLB, then when can they be used? Are they hoping that Diaz will work through his problems and gain confidence? I don't quite get it.

Glad it worked out for Diaz and the Mets.
In other games of importanc to the Mets, the Braves and Padres each won today. Diamondbacks trail the Dodgers 5-3 going to the bottom of the the 3rd inning.

They also gained on the Phils.
Getting him a low-leverage chance to build on a good outing the day before may be something of a benefit, but I think it was about using him because he had warmed up.
I think it's the latter-day warmup rule managers frequently adhere to. If you get a guy warmed up, you need to consider him "used," and so once Diaz had warmed up, he was effective burned and therefore presumably unavailable tomorrow, so you might as well use him.The Hot Corner wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 10:47 pm Why Diaz now. IThat makes sense. I couldn't watch the game so I can't see who is/was warming up. Still, a little surprised they had him pitching for the 4th straight game.

There's a film in the works about Randy Bachman. Apparently his career went sideways after 1977 when his favorite guitar got stolen. Every time he came to a new town, he'd put out feelers. His son Tal recalled growing up always hearing about his hearbreak over this missing Gretsch. In 2019 they finally got a lead and made this film about the family's chase to track the axe down.

Had this thought too. Doesn't speak much towards trusting anyone else in that pen, a four run lead against this team and a chance to give Diaz a breather. The Hot Corner wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 10:47 pm Why Diaz now. Just watched this one. A good game. Megill actually kind of impressed, but was still very Megill-ish and he would have been trounced against a good team. Cool play by Tyrone Taylor. Maton has impressed me, too—he has a 1.86 ERA in 21 games since joining the club.
