Post Season helmets

Post by Frayed Knot » Fri Sep 13, 2024 6:10 pm

NY Post: Major League Baseball teams will have advertising on their helmets during the postseason.
MLB announced Friday it reached a deal for the postseason ads through 2027 with Strauss, a German apparel company that entered the U.S. market last year.
Ads of 5-by-0.92 inches (12.7-by-2.3 centimeters) will be on each side of every helmet featuring “STRAUSS” in capital letters in white alongside the company’s ostrich logo silhouetted by a red square, with an alternate color for red helmets.

The words "fucking abomination" come to mind.
And if the games are on ESPN, I guarantee they will interview the person who designed them while the action is going on.

Totally disgusting. And unsurprising. What did anyone think was gonna happen as soon as MLB approved Nike logos on the unis? The slippery slope slipped to a sleeve patch. And now this. Expect a second sleeve patch next.

Or if not a second sleeve patch, then permanent year-round helmet advertising, instead of just for the post-season.

regular season caps and helmets aren't sellable yet but likely up for sale once the sleeves sell out -- 7 teams have yet to add them.

Mlb gets postseason helmets, plus any games in Europe. The slogan is gigantic.

Just plain awful. And there's no reason to think it's going to stop here. I'm sure there's more, and worse, to come.

MLB is so proud of this move that they've kept word of it off their own website.

What recourse is there?

I don't see an effective MLB boycott about to happen, but it'll be a piece of cake to boycott Strauss.

I guess you can combat Strauss by buying a lot of Dickies and Carhartt wear.

Bring back the BOC, if just for that post.

The helmet advertising will also appear on all minor league helmets for the entire 2025 season.

Sure, but that seems to imply that they're anxious to introduce this to their corporate sponsors but less so to involve their individual fans.

I look forward to being thoroughly disgusted by these when the Mets are wearing them this October.
Hope for the best. Expect the Mets.

I could see it already. The minors are gonna wear the helmet ads. Then there'll be a bullshit made up "poll" claiming that the fans love it. And then, voila, permanent year-round helmet advertising in the majors.

I think that stuff needs to be collectively bargained. The last deal gave MLB the opportunity to sell postseason helmets.

The exact same thought I had when I saw the initial post. I figue in five years the players will be wearing uniforms that are walking billboards that will make us long for the hideous City connect unis.
When did the choices get so hard

Do any of the other major sports in the United States include uniform advertisements?
