I just made a euthanasia appointment for my 17-year-old dog. It's going to be Friday afternoon, at home.

That was a horrible thing to have to do. Especially with her in the room within earshot as I was struggling through the phone call.

Can't imagine what you're going through, Ben.

Thank you all. She's a very sweet dog and she's been very loved. This is very painful, but she's become really helpless. She's recently lost the ability to bring herself to a standing position and that made the decision clear, but certainly not easy.

Sorry to hear of the difficult decision you have had to make, Ben. It is never easy to say goodbye to a beloved pet. I hope you can find comfort in the memories of the wonderful time you shared together.

Awful. All my sympathies to you my friend.

We had to put our beloved family cat Mookie down two years ago at age 19. It was the most I ever saw my wife cry in all the time I've known her (and she cries ALL THE TIME lol)

Very sorry to hear this. Pets are family, and it hurts to lose them.

When we had that appointment for my 19-year-old cat Tug, the vet tech said, "Nineteen years? That is a very well-cared for cat." If your friend was here for 17 years, that shows she was well-loved and well-cared for. My sincere condolences.

We waited a while before adopting a new cat, Cookie Rojas. She's wonderful, but different. I still miss Tug.

That was in BARk. I'm pretty sure they were affiliated with the chew toy company, as the word is stylized the same way, with a lower-case k.

The journal has since ceased publication, and I feel badly, because I suspect that their demise was expedited by exodus of MAGA subscribers after my essay ran.

Kappy sends kisses, he's a good kisser.

Not too slurpy, quick and done.

Glad to not be the only one who replaced a Met-named cat with another Met-named cat

And it's done. She went peacefully. I recommend Lap of Love, which provides at-home euthanasia services. It made the process a lot less stressful for all concerned.

But that doesn't mean it wasn't emotionally draining.

Getting to MAGA though their pets is a powerful weapon. It's well-known that Trump hates dogs, getting him on camera demonstrating as much would be gold. I'm also lolling at the "eating the cats" trend on Tiktok

Our cat was also euthanized at home. And it was also powerfully sad.
