NCLS Game 4 10/17/24 IGT Dodgers vs Mets 8:08

Post by ashie62 » Thu Oct 17, 2024 7:07 am

Jose Quintana will throw against Yoshinobu Yamamoto

Quintana we know. Yamamoto the 300 million dollar man has been all over the map this season. He has been equally ineffective injured and as advertised

He pitched against San Diego the last series and was lights out

Carlos Mendoza said after the game that Francisco Alvarez would be in the lineup tonight and would adhere to the splits so it's JD Martinez again

I am not filled with Kahnfidence here so the Mets have that going for them

In NJ you can watch on optimum FS1 channel 69

Somehow the baseball powers have decided to make the MFYs the 5 PM game and the Mets the 8 PM game? Has the whole world gone mad?

Usually the first game of each series and the first home game of the series for each city gets the prime time slot, so this just looks like a big ol' FU from the networks towards Cleveland (although it reverses tomorrow so it all comes out in the wash).

Not a good matchup. Quintana likes to pitch out of the zone and the Dodgers don't chase. If he starts walking people early this'll get ugly.

Pete needs to swing at the pitches in the strike zone and not flail at the low and away stuff.

Alvarez needs to sit. Nimmo needs to sit. I need to sit (in a different spot on the couch).
Even duct tape can't fix stupid. But it can sure muffle the sound.

I'll take a 5pm start everyday

I know that doesn't work for many I just fade so early now

I'd like to see Cleveland kick some Yanqui arse

i'd love to see us get back to not taking massive swing-for-the-fences-like-you're-sitting-three-and-one-and-up-by-five hacks at every fucking pitch, every time, up and down the lineup.

not every hit needs to be a home run. that's not how we got here, and it's not how we're moving on. quick, somebody call a team meeting.

Hope for the best. Expect the Mets.

Tell them the event is stupid and you don't want to go.

Problem solved!

At least they won't wear the stupid black jerseys anymore.
(Probably).

Those shirts are their heritage. What an embarrassment. That's another thing you can thank eff 'n Jeff for.

No, it's a it-would-be-a-very-important-and-extremely-helpful-game-to-win-win.

Elimination games are the only must-wins.

The 1988 Dodgers trailed the vastly superior Mets 2-1 heading into Game 4 of that NLCS. No one was giving the Dodgers much of a chance, and were already talking about a Mets-Oakland matchup in the World Series.

If I remember correctly, Dodgers twitter was all over Tommy Lasorda, demanding that light-hitting Mike Scioscia be benched.

I usually don't have a problem dismissing those games where they suck at hitting, pitching and fielding all at the same time. But when it's this time of year and it happens twice in a three game span it's a bit more concerning.

Especially against a pitcher who appeared poised to be clobbered. But you never can tell. Maybe they'll clobber Flaherty tomorrow in Game Five.

I attended that Mike Scioscia game. After that, it would be another 34 years before I'd see a Mets postseason game in person.

Mets-Dodgers, NLCS Game Four in Queens. It's hard not to think of that game. I was thinking, before yesterday's game, that the Mets might have a chance to get that three games to one lead that had been denied them in 1988.

Wait! Weren't you like six in 1988? And you had Twitter?
Something seems fishy here.

I was thinking how this series has been reverse 1988 so far. So it should be the Mets denying LA a 3-1 lead tonight.

At least I hope so.

Did you guys see all the weird quirky stuff about why the Mets should advance?

1. The last however many teams that beat the Brewers all went to the WS.
2. The last 5 teams that were beat 9-0 in Game 1 all went in to win that series
3. And we're in the first year after firing Buck Showalter. Though I think Baltimore blew that for us.
