I'm at the acceptance stage now. I realize that the odds are long.

However, if we get to Sunday I'll feel jittery as game time approaches.

And if we get to Monday, well, I'll be a bundle of nervous anticipation.

At the age I'm at, every day is starting to feel like a potential elimination. No point in giving myself a stroke over it — though I'm sure my pressure will rise (and my butt will squeak) if the game is tight in the late innings.

Fight, fight, fight, but let there be ice cream for everybody afterwards.

Yesterday's broadcast booth (not sure which character) kept describing the Mets as being particularly up against it because of their intent to throw a "bullpen game" today.

Whether Senga or Peterson got the start, it was never intended to be a bullpen game.

It has to be this way. Senga can't be trusted with the season literally on the line.
If Senga can't be trusted with the season on the line, why would he be needed at all? IF he comes into today's game with the Mets still in it, I will assume that he can get batters out. I assume that the Mets know a heckuva lot more than I do about Senga's present abilities and what he's got left in his tank.

To tell you the truth, if Senga was "on" --- if his mechanical issues were solved, I'd prefer that he start over Peterson. When he's healthy and on his game, he's got the best stuff on the Mets staff and he, better than any other Mets pitcher, could retire Dodger batters while pitching in the strike zone. When the Mets announced that Senga would only pitch a few innings at a time (like two or three) at the beginning of the playoffs, I figured that he'd recovered from his injuries but that his stamina or endurance was still a little suspect. Obviously, that hasn't been the case so far.

I think part of it is that we never realistically thought they'd get this far. They beat two pretty good teams in Milwaukee and Philly. Even if they crash and burn tonight it's been the most fun Mets season in ages. It's no shame to lose to the Dodgers.

That being said, I don't want to see those bastards celebrate on our turf. This situation absolutely requires that a really futile and stupid gesture be done on somebody's part, and they're just the guys to do it.

On the other hand, if Senga is worthy of getting another start, does it really matter if he gets that start today or in Game six, assuming there is a game six? The Mets have to win the rest of the games anyways. They have to win game six as much as they have to win game five.

Peterson in Game Five, Manaea in Game Six*, and Severino in Game Seven*.

I wouldn't feel any shame or any disappointment no matter who the Mets lost to. And that includes the White Sox if, hypothetically, the White Sox were allowed to compete in the post-season. It's just a couple of games and baseball is an extremely luck-plagued sport. The playoffs are much fun when you have a strong rooting interest in the games but I don't derive much profound meaning from any of it. After a few games, I've watched practically none of the pre and post-game analysis. None of it To me, it's almost entirely unwatchable, all of it. Just mindless blather. There's some good stuff in there but the signal to noise ratio is microscopically tiny.

That's about right, unless the Mets know something very positive about Senga that isn't obvious to us regular fans.

It was actually the p-b-p guy (whose name I never remember). One or both of them used the phrase multiple times but it was a very broad use of the phrase.

The pre and post game analysis is riddled with Yankees, which is enough for me to avoid it.

Well, I guess it's relevant to ask if Iglesias gets to that.
