Even duct tape can't fix stupid. But it can sure muffle the sound.
Re: Didn't Know That Until Just NOW!!! 2024
Today, I learned that, one night in 1970, in San Antonio, Texas, Deep Purple had a gig scheduled, but were in a bind, because Ritchie Blackmore was ill.
But it was OK, because a local guy knew all of Ritchie's licks, and was able to step in.
That man was Christopher Cross.

Every time I heard that song, I wanted to race to my radio and turn the station.

You're on a two-bit cruise, checking out the white trousers of the other clowns, wondering if you're every bit the clown they are, because after all, here you are. You're strolling through the vapors of a dry-ice sea mist, trying to stay away from the bar because the drinks are so expensive, and that's where they get you, but you can't stay away, because you're soooo bored, and then you hit the 3:30 mark in this crooze classick, and suddenly you realize — damned if Earl Campbell can't shred like nobody's business.
It's there in the original recording, but so sublimated, as if he's ashamed of himself.

It's awesome. It's what gets me up in the morning. The girls go crazy when they see me do it. "Do it again, Edgy!" they squeal, but I try not to overdo it. Gotta keep my powder dry.

When Cross was nominated for a Grammy, I recall seeing many stories about how he really deserved it because of "all he's been through (wink wink)" but nobody said outright what that was all about. I searched but was never ever to find a back story that bad.
Was he screwed on a contract like Billy Joel or did he have a substance abuse problem? Did he toil for a band that didn't let his talent shine? Something else?
Anybody know?
I'd like to know about that NOW!

I've caught you doing this many times over the years -- a coupl'a times disingenuously so. This one was innocuous, but they all weren't. When it isn't, it's an abuse of your powers.Edgy MD wrote: ↑Sat Aug 31, 2024 10:52 am Admin powers, I think, include the uncanny ability to edit posts without being timestamped.

I'm not sure what I've done. I edited as I wrote, and don't see anything to complain about, and don't feel caught in anything, let alone in being disingenuous.
I wrote in kindness to offer you something. If somehow I've done wrong, I'm baffled, but please, by all means, take my powers away and give them to another.

"Wild Thing" and "Angel of the Morning" were both written by the same person. That person is Chip Taylor, who was born James Voight and is Jon Voight's brother.
He also wrote this:

I knew that (possibly because it previously has come up here).
The third Voight brother is Barry, an eminent volcanologist.

Subaru is the Japanese translation for the Pleiades, the 'Seven Sisters' star group in the constellation Taurus
In some legends one of the seven is always invisible hence Subaru's six star logo.

Facetious is the only word in the English language that uses all of the vowels in that order.

I just had an epiphany, figuring out something right in front of me the whole time.
Beverly Hills Cop featured "The Heat Is On" by Glen Frey.
Beverly Hills Cop II featured "Shakedown" by Bob Seger.
Now, I know you're thinking that, sure, both are just crap, disposable, synth-driven soundtrack filler by 70s rockers who've left their A-game behind, trying to use slick production to disguise a throwaway song.
But they're not just that. It just occurs to me that these weren't just some random assignments at all! You don't have to even follow me very deep down the rabbit hole to observe that ... both Frey and Seger, like Axel Foley, made names for themselves by leaving Detroit for LA.
BOOM!

Bees sleep, but they don't have eyelids. So they end up falling asleep with their eyes open.

i don't think any insects have eyelids...
they're a feature of (most) land-dwelling vertebrates. so, fish that eventually came to live on land, needed to keep their eyes moist and clean, so eyelids became a thing. amphibians and most reptiles have 'em, as do mammals and dinosaurs, the latter of which are frequently referred to as birds. (on this, i like to be pedantic, because life is more fun once you realize that all birds are in fact dinosaurs)
fish don't got 'em, nor do any animals (possible exceptions may exist due to convergent evolution along the eons) whose lineages branched off before the land-walking started.

Al Pacino's maternal grandparents were immigrants from Corleone, Sicily*. Also, his given name is Alfredo and as a youth was nicknamed Sonny, and yet he winds up playing Michael.
Still, you can say his role in The Godfather was one he was born to play.
* it was only fairly recently that i learned Corleone was a real town. I long assumed it was simply a name Mario Puzo made up.

Goose eggs is not a term as unique to baseball as all that. The word "love" for zero in tennis is from the French l'œuf, or "the egg." Similarly, the word "duck" is used for a nil score in cricket, short for "duck's egg."

In one of his last interviews before his death, Fred Astaire revealed that Led Zeppelin was one of his favorite bands and that he loved to dance to their music.
