In World Series Thread - 2024
Re: In World Series Thread - 2024
I would expect the lawyers advised them to give the refund for a game they prospectively cannot attend (and during which they have not violated license terms, since the game hasn’t started yet). It’s the easiest way — “Your ticket is a revocable license, and we just revoked it. Here’s your money back.”
Beyond the ejection-without-refund yesterday (for violating the terms of yesterday’s license) options are limited. Criminal charges effectively requires a victim willing to press charges (Betts didn’t seem interested). Civil tort claims would require proving some damages (unclear what those are).
That said, they absolutely require more severe punishment. Revocation of next year’s season tickets at a minimum, and longer term ban from MLB stadia seems appropriate.

I don't know whether or not a crime was committed there but it's not necessary for somebody to "press charges " for a prosecutor to pursue the criminal case. If the prosecutor has all of the evidence it needs to prosecute without needing the victim's cooperation, it can decide whether or not to prosecute irrespective of the victim's wishes.Gwreck wrote: ↑Wed Oct 30, 2024 3:33 pm I would expect the lawyers advised them to give the refund for a game they prospectively cannot attend (and during which they have not violated license terms, since the game hasn’t started yet). If he's breaking "house rules" (as specified on his ticket about interfering with balls in play, or something else) he might be charged with a low level misdemeanor such as criminal trespass.
I dunno.
If they want to charge him, they'll find something.

LaterAustin Capobianco, the Connecticut native who was ejected from Game 4 of the World Series for prying a foul ball out of the glove of Los Angeles right fielder Mookie Betts made a lasting impression in college with a Super Bowl champion.
Former New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski told Kay Adams on FanDuel TV's Up & Adams Show that he and Capobianco were college friends, then gave some background to the New York Yankees fan.
"He is a beauty and I just want to say congratulations for shining when your moment came," Gronkowski addressed to Capobianco on the show.

"If it's in our area, we're gonna 'D' it up"
Except, wannabe tough guy, you had ample opportunity to do that and you failed miserably.
Sitting even in the first row in that area* you're several feet higher than the field making you considerably 'taller' than the RF'er even if that fielder happens to be named Judge. What you do in that situation is get as tall as you can (stand on a seat if necessary) and catch, or even just touch, the ball as it comes down prior to the RF having any shot at it. As long as you make contract with the orb on the fan side of a line extending up from the wall it's a foul ball meaning you prevented your team from making an out AND you get to watch the remainder of the game from your seat AND it's all perfectly legal. But since you sucked at your stated mission, one he claims they talk about "all the time" in that section (they're season ticket holders remember) you made no attempt at the ball, or at best a lame attempt, (afraid you might jam a pinkie?) until it had already settled in the glove of the 5' 9" Betts. You then proceeded to try and wrest the ball away while you held Mookie's glove and even there you only succeeded because your buddy held his other hand at the same time. By then even the RF ump -- y'know, those extras umps who seem to get more calls wrong every post-season than they do right (I'm convinced that the continued use of the 5th & 6th umps is strictly now a union thing and MLB would dump the whole concept otherwise) -- knew what had happened because I've seen six year olds get a stuffed bunny out of one of those rigged claw machines faster than you got the ball out and even then, just like Jefferey Maier, you dropped it meaning you twice! failed to do what you claim you set out to do. And at least Maier's act helped his team. Now granted that was only due to incompetence from one of those aforementioned extras umps but his attempted theft was better than yours and he was like 8 years old!
That two guys teaming up on a player during an active play are only missing one game and even then only because MLB intervened (the Yanx first announced they would be welcomed back for Game 5) is beyond pathetic.
* I actually sat in almost that exact spot (or actually the equivalent spot in YSII) and had Reggie Jackson steaming right towards me as he chased a pop fly. This one wound up coming down several feet fair and Reggie made a very nice running catch of it while grinding to a halt just short of the wall which was impressive on two levels 1) that Reggie was no GG fielder on his best day, and 2) it was a Old-Timers game so he wasn't a spring chicken either.
I don't remember the specific year, some time in the '90s. And one of the guys a seat or two to the side of me wound up in the background of a picture of the catch that appeared in one of the papers the next day.

It's even worse than you describe it. When the ball was in flight, one asshole closed his eyes, while the other one covered his entire face and squealed like a stuck pig. (I don't have the audio, but I'm sure this happened).
I challenge you to find me two adult men more afraid of a baseball.

And to repeat, the ball is already in Mookie's glove by this time.
Someone who knows how to do such stuff needs to make a meme of that shot and pepper their overly macho quotes around it:
- we're gonna 'D' it up
- it's our job to protect our territory
- anything for the team
The French 'Maginot Line' provided better defense.

That guy on the right reminds me of the old William B. Williams radio show, "Make Believe Ball-room".

Yankees are gonna win the same games we did. The bullpen game and the second Flaherty start.

NY Post: The Bombers fan asshole said he had familiarity with Yankees security because “peasant[s]” sitting behind him have frequently complained about him standing up in front of them and cheering during the games.
So, iow, you're an asshole TO Yanqui fans too?
Capobianco Asshole went to Billy’s near Yankee Stadium after the ejection and said he spent the rest of the night “slamming drinks.”
So you don't plan on Ever growing up, do you?

And still time to tack on.
And to that end, Teoscar Hernandez singles on an 0-2 pitch to start top 9

Dang!!! I had forgotten that I paused the game for like 60 seconds to hit the bathroom an inning or so ago, so I was one batter behind when your 'In the Books' post caught me by surprise.
