Updating on the status of my latest adoptee as I've just learned last night (via twitter) that he's started his own podcast! I haven't had the opporunity to listen yet, but imma try to spin it today. Glad to see the show biz genes are thick in this kid's DNA.

So I listened to ep1 yesterday. It was basically Tommy chatting with his friend and former teammate at Cal State Fullerton. His friend was 'the guest' so they focused that guy's playing days in the Mexican league, etc. It was a first episode and it kinda lacked structure a bit (more like a couple of buddies just bullshitting) but it has potential to be cool and could be a great vehicle for a professional baseball player to describe what it's like week-in and week-out in the minors. I'm hopeful.

I don't know if funny is going to be his ticket necessarily. But I hope this thing becomes a window into the life of a working ballplayer anyway.

I missed ep2, but ep3 was his first solo podcast and he talked about baseball in general (he's not in favor of changing the game to appeal to young/new fans and thinks players will simply adjust to this or that thing that is the current front office inefficiency). He talked about how important velocity is for a young pitcher in a way that made me think of Mike Pelfrey/Rick Peterson. But he was also heady enough to know that it's important, but not everything as he talked about Jason Vargas schooling Brooklyn hitters on a rehab assignment.
Next podcast is from spring training! Go Tommy!

I adopted the best prospect. Dig this vid Poppa Wilson made of how proud he is of his kid, and of their shared love of the beautiful game.

As reported in the Roster Central thread, my boy Tommy got drafted by Seattle in the minor league rule V draft, then shipped to Baltimore for cash.
I didn't keep up on him enough here, but he was a good follow on Twitter, a fun and creative 25-year old dude. He pitched well in AA last year, striking out 18 in 15 1/3 and looks to be a decent shot to get a major league cup of coffee in '22, especially now that he's with a crappy Baltimore team. But baseball's not his only passion, or the only thing he's good at. He played with the podcast medium for a bit and maybe got bored with it, and is now a huge NFT guy, even creating his own pieces. His twitter bio even lists artist ahead of baseball player: "Digital Artist // Professional Baseball Player - Baltimore Orioles"
Here's his latest piece:
Good luck, Tommy. Like Doc said, your future is whatever you make it, so make it a good one.
