In Vaccine Thread 2021

Post by Fman99 » Sat Jan 16, 2021 7:37 am

Fwife is queued up for shot #1 on Wednesday, her job as day care director puts her in group 1B. Some of her employees are in that same group but waited to make appointments and now they're waiting until March for their jab.

My rheumatologist told me that the medication I take for my psoriatic arthritis puts me in group 1C, which could potentially get me a shot earlier than some of my friends. My son turns 16 in March and so he'll get on a list too. Fgirl will wait as they've not cleared any vaccinations or doses yet for kids her age (13).

Hopefully all y'all who need it most (and aren't fearful of it) are on short lists.

Got an email from my boss asking if I'm planning to get the vaccine. I told him yes, because I want to live.
I hope the company will make it mandatory.

I am 1B. Don't believe I will see the vaccine any time soon.

I'm in 1C because of my BMI, which is just over 31. My girlfriend, who has MS and is immunocompromised, is not in Phase 1 at all, which is ridiculous. (My county is only including people whose immune systems are compromised due to solid organ transplants.) I would gladly give her my slot but I don't think there's a way to do that. (And she probably wouldn't take it anyway. My slot that is; she would take the vaccine.)

The e-mail I got after I registered for the vaccine said that I would be contacted when a dose is available for me, but it might be a month or more. (If it is only a month I'll be very pleased.) I've registered for an online town hall to be held on Monday where I'll try to state a case to open up the definition of immunocompromised. I hope, at least, that Phase 2 will eventually be subdivided like Phase 1 was, and that this more vulnerable group will be in Phase 2A.

I really didn't expect to be in the first phase at all. I don't think I should be, but if a chance to get the vaccine comes along, I'm not going to turn it down.

Did you have to provide some sort of documentation of your BMI or are they just taking your word for it?
Because while being heavier than ideal can be A factor in surviving Covid, if BMI is being prioritized over several other pre-existing conditions
(which I agree is an odd choice) it would benefit folks to report higher BMIs in order to move themselves up in the pecking order.

I've asked that question, do I need to present any documentation of my BMI. I haven't received an answer yet.

Because if no proof is needed then I'm going to tell them that my BMI is 174

The weird part is that I just heard a report the other day saying that relying on the BMI index was something health professionals were starting to phase out.
It always seemed a bit odd to me that when BMI was first introduced (some time in the '90s) we were told that we should pay attention to that rather than
to the old fashioned height and weight charts ... except that BMI was based on height and weight figures so I never really saw how it was an improvement
in the first place. It was more just a different way of stating the same thing and it still has no way to account for different body types.

Aside from a sore arm Fwife survived vaccine dose #1 with a minimum of discomfort and inconvenience. The entire process was about 30 minutes in duration.

Great stuff. I for one will take whatever one they can give me as soon as they can get it to me!

My doctors office has rescheduled my regular appointments at least three times
asking me that if I feel ok please be patient but they're overwhelmed. Patient! Hah!
I don't know if I'll be eligible for vaccination in May, but that's currently my next visit.

I'm now in the Phase 1A, not because my condition has changed but because the definition of 1A has widened. My son and my girlfriend are also in 1A. My daughter is not, but she recovered from an infection in November so she's likely immune for four or five or eight or more months. (My hunch says eight or more, but what do I know?) Now that I'm in 1A I could, theoretically, have my number come up any week now. But it could just as easily be several months. It really depends on how quickly they're able to manufacture and distribute enough doses.

Registration and medical conditions, at least in NJ are on the honor system.

I thought I might need to have my RX history in some way.

Wife got shot #2 yesterday. Sore arm but otherwise off to work today as usual. She's pretty happy to have gotten that second booster, despite knowing that there's a 2-3 week turnaround before she reaches her fullest immunity.

Better yet, I am in the next group to be eligible in NY, as I take autoimmune suppressing medication for my psoriatic arthritis. My rheumatologist's letter is in the mail and I can start trying to get an appointment on Sunday.

My mom(age 91 in a few weeks) got her first shot at the supermarket!

They have a link in place to make appointments but every time I would look for her, it’d be filled. So we figured maybe she could just stop and ask them next time we were in shopping and she got lucky; someone had just canceled!

I got to wondering where on earth she was and she was back in the pharmacy. She had on three layers of clothes cos it was so cold so that was a hitch lol

Next shot scheduled for March 5; I hope they have them.

I’m not worried about myself...plus in PA you have to be 65 and I’m not so I’ll be waiting a while

I'm eligible due to my age and the college arranged for vaccinations for their employees. I had my first shot two weeks ago and am scheduled for my second on the 27th. They had enough doses so my wife could get hers, too.

I suspect it's because the college has a number of Franciscan friars who are getting on in years. They probably arranged it for them in mind, but realized that they had to use up doses, so they opened it up, first to employees and then to their spouses.

Was able to get one of the 500 vaccination slots my county opens up each Tuesday (they lasted all of 8 minutes) and got Moderna shot #1 yesterday. Will get shot #2 on St. Paddy's day and should be up to fully immunized resistance by the end of March. I'm beyond happy about this.

Aside from some soreness in my upper arm where I got the jab, no side effects of note.

My mother got shot #2 yesterday. My in-laws also have received both doses. It's such a weight of my shoulders that they've gotten this protection.

As I mentioned in the Prediction thread, I have an appointment for March 2. It will be the Pfizer vaccine, with a second dose three weeks later. I'll be getting it at a vaccination clinic run by the county that I live in.

Vaccinated! Second dose, it turns out, will be four weeks later. Or at least that's the current understanding. I'll get an e-mail in about a week that will allow me to schedule the second dose.

The vaccinations were taking place in the community college gym, and they asked us to sit in the bleachers (in a socially distant manner, natch) for fifteen minutes after we receive the shot, just to make sure we're feeling okay before we drive home. I just felt some warmth at the injection site, but no adverse reaction to speak of. I've heard that the effects of the second dose are likely to be worse.

And Joe Biden says that anybody who wants a shot will be able to get one by the end of May. Here's hoping.
