Twenty-One Prediction Fun: Noah Syndergaard

Post by Edgy MD » Sat Apr 03, 2021 11:29 am

Matt Harvey, David Wright, Yoenis Céspedes, Johan Santana — in recent years, a lot of Mets have loomed larger in their absence than many have in their presence. This year, I'm that guy. I may be on the field in a few weeks, or never. How's never? Is never good for you?

I'm Noah Syndergaard, and obviously, that's not the idea, but you know how rehab setbacks work. One small twinge and an abundance of caution totally re-sets the clock. You'll see that Beatles movie and season three of Lost in Space before you ever see me.

But this totally isn't awesome for me either. As dominant as I can be, as high-profile as my profile is, I've never had had that top season — the top-three Cy Young type of season that pretty much signs checks for you going forward. I was #8 back in 2016. But that was five years ago, and between then and now I tore my lat muscle and missed most of a season in which I was the opening day starter. And even then, and I only logged 183 2/3 innings. I'm playing (or not playing, as it were) for a contract and my next 200-inning season will be my first. And that's sure as hell not going to be this year.

So I want to get out there, you know? I have tried to incorporate myth and storytelling into my whole scene, and keep the opposition on their heels. But that doesn't work too well when you're sitting out. When gods bleed ... and all that. So I really need youse all to tell me how this story is going to play itself out. Once you do, I can rush into rewrites. But your predictions will go a long way.

It would suck if I just turned out to be one more bullshit Twitter troll.

Returns in August.
Scares the living daylights out of at least four batters because he doesn't have good command of his fastball for his first few starts.
7-2, 3.21 ERA 1.29 WHIP

First year back from TJ is often sub-par. Has flashes, but 4-5, 4.50.
The answer to the question "Can people really be that stupid?" is always "Yes."

In case you've lost count, Noah Syndergaard today improbably became the 65th 2021 Met. I don't know if that means that the 2021 Mets qualify for Social Security Benefits, but probably not. Kevin Pillar took home the honor of 2021 Met #1, and Synder is #65.

Will there be a #66? I don't know, but I'd guess probably.

64th. But as they say in the Spectrum commercial, who’s counting?
Hope for the best. Expect the Mets.

Classic 2:00 AM Excel error: I counted the heading row.

Either that, or I counted Akeem Bostick twice, which can totally happen.

No one predicted that he'd finish with a 0.00 ERA.

Also incorrect: We actually did see Syndergaard before seeing the Beatles movie or season three of Lost in Space.

Noah to start, for an inning, Sunday, with Stroman calling it a season, DiComo says.
Hope for the best. Expect the Mets.
