We are crestfallen. I am 49 and I've had the same cat for nearly 20 years. That's 40% of my life.

The kids have taken it surprisingly well. My wife, OTOH, is every bit the emotional weepy mess I knew she would be. She will be OK eventually but this was her baby before she had any actual human babies. And he spent much of the last 19 years perched in her lap each night.

Thanks, everyone, for the kind wishes. My wife and I laid in bed this morning, early, reminiscing and shedding a few more tears about our sweet departed kitty cat. He was the best.

Each day has gotten a bit easier. Today was a little bit harder - my wife went back to work after being off for the last 10 days and her coworkers made her a photo gift of her & Mooks that is very nice. Then, after dinner, the very nice pet hospice lady dropped off Mookie's remains. Each time it solicited a few tears but to her credit she bounced back fairly well.

It's tough and I don't deny her any of the time it takes for her to get through the grieving and healing process.

Getting the remains is tough too! It was nice of them to drop them off instead of your having to pick them up. We have four little caskets/urns in our living room along with their favorite toy. People probably think I'm weird, but I don't care.

One of our new neighbors, we found out, is someone who fosters cats to help raise them and prepare them for adoption. She has two litters of kittens now that are all in the 2-3 weeks of age phase. Fwife and Fboy went over there to pet kittens and start picking out a couple to bring home in June once they are older.

My wife and daughter are each going to pick one - a boy and a girl - and name them. My rule is there must be some Mets connection. Fwife's already settled on "Wilmer" for the boy.

For a girl cat, though, we have to give this a bit of thought. Maybe you all can help - some Met/Metly names that would work for a girl cat? Fgirl thought of "Shea," and I suggested "Cookie" after Cookie Carrasco. Other suggestions are welcome.

Strawberry

getting 2 cats at once is great and what I'd recommend. Food/poop costs are higher but fun to watch em interact. When we did that the shelter recommended we get 2 guys rather than 1 of each, forget the details of why

Yeah, if you let it get to that. Do sibling cats get it on? I wouldn't know

If the boycat is to be named "Wilmer," you can just name the girlcat "Flores."

Or, better yet, "Felix" and "Mantilla." I don't know how all you catpeople have resisted the name "Felix" so far.

Other important female-ish Met names:

Nancy
Joan
Lucie
Astoria
Jane
Strawberry
Valentine/Valentina
Ventura
Whitney
Darling
Torre
Sandy
LaGuardia
Frisella
Grzenda
Quintanilla
Satin (bonus Jewish content!)

Yes. When I was young we had sister/brother kittens and waited too long to get them fixed and then the female cat suddenly started getting big in the middle.

I'm allergic to cats. but if someone dropped an Alfonza on my
porch I'd find a way to adapt. So would Kappy.

We brought Wilmer and Cookie home yesterday. They are two months old and very playful. Wilmer (orange) is the less timid of the two. They are brother and sister.

You guys remember Kasper, he used to post here. Nothing bothered him.
Thunder and lightning, fireworks and Derek Jeter commercials.

Kappy (pictured left) is freaking out with the neighborhood fireworks. I
feel so bad, he's trembling laying on me.
