Those states whose residents have , on average, the lowest IQ's, are deemed the lowest IQ states. Also, those states that have, on average, the highest temperatures year-round are deemed to be the warmest states in the nation. And those states that have the most highways are deemed to be the states that have the most highways
Temperatures and number of highways are things that can be counted.
Has anyone here had their IQ measured by their state of residence? I highly doubt it.

So are IQ's. What are you saying? That IQ's can't be added up? Or averaged? Or even counted?

You should at least win the argument before you take a victory lap by heaping a personal insult on me.

Anyone have the NYS Excelsior Pass app thingy on their phones yet. My CDC card has already
taken a pocket beating and the phone thing seems more logical these days.

I installed it, took seven minutes (but slow and blind these days) on the phone. God knows
what I agreed to disclaimer wise 'cause I wasn't sifting through all that. Bottom line, it works.

Fgirl now 14 days after her second shot, meaning we're all fully protected to the level that science allows.
Naturally, I have a chest cold and a lingering shortness of breath thing the last 2 days and have to go get a Covid test tomorrow. Happy that it's not more serious and hoping that it's just a non Covid thing

Booster may be needed for J&J shot as Delta variant spreads, some experts already taking them
Excerpt:
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Infectious disease experts are weighing the need for booster shots of the Pfizer/BioNTech or Moderna mRNA-based vaccines for Americans who received Johnson & Johnson's one-dose vaccine due to the increasing prevalence of the more contagious Delta coronavirus variant.
A few say they have already done so themselves, even without published data on whether combining two different vaccines is safe and effective or backing from U.S. health regulators. Canada and some European countries are already allowing people to get two different COVID-19 shots.
The debate centers on concerns over how protective the J&J shot is against the Delta variant first detected in India and now circulating widely in many countries. Delta, which has also been associated with more severe disease, could quickly become the dominant version of the virus in the United States, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Director Rochelle Walensky has warned.
There is no substantial data showing how protective the J&J vaccine is against the new variant. However, UK studies show that two doses of either the Pfizer/BioNTech or AstraZeneca vaccines are significantly more protective against the variant than one.

seems like boosters all around. I just hope we figure out the optimal time without having to have a viscous outbreak and being like "oh, guess we shoot boost immunity now.."

So FWIW - on Sunday i'll be getting my second Pfizer jab. We're down to people in their late 30s getting their first one now - it'll be a while before we finish it out but the best news it seems we are getting about 90% take up among the eligble population - this will inevitably slip a little in the 20s and teens but there really is broad take up.
The big problem is trying to get the 20s and 30s done fast before the 'delta variant' has the potential to skew things badly- we're already potentially seeing the need to pause the re-opening of hospitality as in 3 weeks time you'll have another big chunk of the population fully vaccinated.
This thing is a long way from over yet ...

Yeah, I'm probably going to get a booster for my J&J as some degree of delta insurance.
The terrible bit is that the state of India would be front-page news here and all over the world, except we're so desperate for any but the happiest of COVID news now, that the tragedies of India barely gets a shrug. And the delta variant has weakened their defense posture so they're scrambling to send tens of thousands of troops to the Chinese border, and in a vicious cycle, that's likely to create more hot spots for the variant.

Looks like Pfizer and Moderna confer longer-term immunity, and booster shots may not be needed. Also seems to fight the Delta variant. J & J may be a diferent story as it's a different kind of vaccine.
Going to see a couple of my wife's relatives in their late 80's this weekend for the first time in 18 months. They've been living it up since their shots and good for them.

KB's niece in No Cali is a registered nurse and has been vaccinated for quite some
time. She had a 'cold' for a few days. The family all went out to celebrate the anniversary
of KB's sister's birthday over the weekend. Then she just tested positive. Five adults, six
kids, waitstaff and whatever all exposed to a vax'd person who still got sick.
Shit's not over by any stretch, hope people don't get too crazy this holiday weekend. I miss
swapping spit with strangers at bbq's but not this year. Not yet.

Not Delta, just 'regular.' They're all doing their quarantine thing and I guess they
won't be tested until Fri/Sat due to waiting period.

The important thing is that she had a "cold" and not a "trip to the hospital and a ventilator".
The vaccine doesn't stop the virus completely, but it does stop those consequences virtually completely.
