Should we consider a return of David Robertson?

Post by The Hot Corner » Tue Jan 02, 2024 4:54 pm

I know that, first and foremost, the Mets need starting pitching. However, the bullpen could still use some improving and added depth. I think pairing Robertson with Diaz would greatly enhance the back end of the pen. He would take some stress of Diaz in his return from injury and he would be a nice insurance policy if Diaz struggles upon his return.

Short term - yes.
For the reasons you mentioned.

The bullpen depth is one of the things the Mets have been aggressive about this offseason.

The personnel haven't typically been brand names, but many of them are on major-league contracts, so I'm not sure the Mets will be continuing to feed that engine going forward.

But there's the other hand — that there isn't an obvious backup plan if Diaz doesn't re-emerge in star form, so maybe they're still looking.

Well, it appears that Robertson was a pipe dream (for me anyway). Reports have him agreeing to a 1 year deal for $11-12 mil. with the Rangers.
