Confession: I don’t hate the DH and all that it brings as much as I thought.
Obviously the DH is part of it but it's not just that.
Neither guy is tall, but Seaver et al weren't seeing 5' 11" / 233 and 5' 8" / 187 with that kind of pop as the supposed two worst hitters on the team.
The 8th hitter was more likely to be a 5' 10" / 175 middle infielder back then.

And, yes, the DH still suxx.

Put another way, and just looking at the #8 slot to take the DH factor out:
2024 HRs from 8th slot = 437
1974 HRs from 8th slot = 123

Now there fewer teams in '74 therefore right about 20% fewer PAs so that bumps the 1974 figure to 148
which puts the HR rate this season at just under triple what it was back then.

Yeah, the DH is folly compounded upon folly.

That ball going into the stands might have cost the Mets two runs. I was thinking inside-the-parker off the bat.

That could have been three bases without the bounce into the stands ... that could have been Four bases.

Four Ks for Vientos and I'm not sure if he's even seen 15 total pitches

Nimmo attacking the first pitch is working against his strength.

Love what he did after that, though.

One baseball rule I've never understood is only allowing two bases for a ball that bounces over the fence.

And, given how crappily pitchers can control their pitches, maybe penalize HBP more. Not that Kerkering threw at Pete, but that was a Nuke Laloosh pitch.

And Nimmo takes care of penalizing him more, rules or not!

Didn't look very good even when he broke through, but strong is strong.

Something like fan interference is subject to umpire judgement.
But a ball bouncing out of play falls under the designation of 'Grounds Rule' so it's an automatic call.

With a three run lead, I would have given Manaea more than one batter.

Zach Wheeler pitching tomorrow just adds to the Yuge-Ness of this game.
