Keep in mind that nobody actually Likes Trump (OK, Cindy Adams does and Sean Hannity might, but nobody who actually matters!), including Rupert Murdoch.
MAGA Republicans only "like" him only to the extent they think they need to hang onto his coattails in order to succeed and/or fear his wrath Twitter output if
they don't. But once that connection is severed -- it hasn't happened yet even as we start to see signs of it -- most of those who sucked up to him will toss him
aside like last week's fish.

Retiring Senator Pat Toomey is throwing blame at the former president for Doug Mastriano losing the gubenatorial election. But Mastriano got really creamed. He was a bad candidate (and ardent election-denier) all on his own and he totally sucked up to Trump voluntarily.

I wouldn't say he's abandoning Trump just yet. More like keeping his options open. It'll be interesting to see how Fox News treats his presidential campaign announcement.

More and more republicans are coming out into the open saying that Trump killed them this election. Not at the tipping point yet, but there are grumbles coming from the lower decks. They're already privately pleading with him to stay out of Georgia during the runoff, but like a moth to the flame, I'm sure he'll be there.

I'd hate to be the guy who has to explain to DumbAsAStump Walker what
exactly a run-off is. "Do I run off tackle or the guard? Which one is which? I
know the center guy because he's the snapper."

Walker described it today as "We in overtime." Yes, seriously.

If Democrats win in Nevada (Arizona was called for Kelly earlier today), this race is no longer about control of the Senate. That lowers the pressure for Republicans to turn up. People knew Herschel was an idiot, but voted for him anyway because control of the chamber was at stake. If it's not, they may not bother. That's the hope, anyway.

Me and the missus are already writing our Vote Forward postcards to Georgia voters. We're taking nothing for granted.

Congresswoman Boebert was rated at 97% likely to win. Whether she survives or not, it seems like the jig could be up for her. If her strongman isn't in charge anymore, the party has little need for her.

I'm sure she can try to be like The New York Post and suck up to whoever she understands the new boss to be, but I don't see her playing that game very well. She's already picking intraparty fights she can't possibly win without the ex-president, and he's busy treading shark-infested waters.

Catherine Cortez-Masto pulls it out in Nevada. The Senate is officially in Democratric hands for the next two years.

Democracy, while still under strain, can breathe a little easier.

AP is calling Nevada a re-election win for U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto. Control of the senate won't flip no matter which way the Georgia runoff goes.

The late announcement results are causing a midnight pain in Georgia.
Many TV News folks are saying the Republicans may not turn out because they feel their vote won't matter any more. Getting another Democratic Senator will help to make the Senate Sinema proof.

Incumbent Secretary of State Katie Hobbs has apparently edged edged out Kari Lake in the race for Arizona's governorship.

Election denialism is losing at the ballot box, all over.

Lake can huff and puff but it won't make any difference.

It's looking like Republicans will pull out a very narrow lead in the House. It'll mean nothing substantive gets done for the next two years, with the exception of Republicans taking the debt ceiling hostage (again). Democrats can fix this in the lame duck if they can get Manchin and Sinema to go along, never a good bet.

And of course there'll be lots of Hunterbiden, Hunterbiden, Hunterbiden.

But the crazies running the show for 2 years on the House side will set up a nice contrast for 2024. Trump making his announcement tonight is just frosting on the crazy cake. Let the games begin.

They're gonna impeach Biden like 8 times.

Well, they can try impeaching Biden, but it won't go very well. They'll also try impeaching Merrick Garland, and probably a few others. Problem is they won't even get a majority in the House with such a narrow margin for error. McCarthy's a weak leader who may not even have the votes to be confirmed as Speaker. It's going to be a shitshow, all of which will redound to the Democrats' benefit.

Yeah, shmall me crazy, but I don't think the eight impeachments are going to happen.

I think there'll be fringe motions by firebrand figures, but I don't see a vote passing, and so I don't see a vote coming.

Not unless the president actually does something impeachable, which I suppose could happen.

I'm not even sure The Committee to Investigate the 1/6 Committee is even going to happen.

Aside from pointing out the obvious that Hunter Biden holds no political office, are there any real Hunter defenders? Like, if he pulled any illegal shit, I want him to pay as much as any Trump kid. Down with all the shady nepotism.

nah, it's a straw man. It's helpful though, if someone mentions him you know that _they_ are full of shit and you can discount pretty much everything they're saying.

You know what? I hope they do. And I hope Trump gets the nomination and runs again in 2024. Trump had his miracle in 2016 but once the nation learned who he was, he lost everywhere. He lost the House in his mid-term election - historically, so. Dems picked up about 40 House seats but the lines were so outrageously gerrymamdered that with the votes the Dems won, they should've picked up 20 more seats. He lost the Senate in 2020 and lost to Biden by 7 million votes. Arizona and Georgia voted blue and Georgia sent two Dem senators to the senate.

also predict that such nonsense will never even get to hearings or whatever.
