Available for adoption: Tyler Stuart

Post by Benjamin Grimm » Wed Jul 19, 2023 4:07 pm

I'd adopt him, but I don't need the responsibility!

This Mets prospect leads the Minors in ERA
Within a Mets system that still lacks impact pitching prospects at the upper levels, Stuart stands tall in more ways than one. Much like Mike Vasil, another mid-round Draft pick who figures to be the next Mets' pitching prospect to make his Major League debut, Stuart has worked himself into position to join New York as soon as next season. For a pitcher barely a year removed from college, that’s no small feat.

Born in 1999 in Kankakee, IL, the year the city was rated (by somebody) as "America's Worst Place to Live," in response to which David Letterman (or The Late Show) donated a pair of gazebos.

I adopted Vasil.
I'll race you to the majors. :)

Stuart went 7 in his second AA start, allowing two runs. He did give up a homer, is second in as many AA starts after giving up three in fourteen starts in high-A. So he's still has to make some adjustments, but he gets through innings quickly and has the look of somebody who'll go deep into games.

After giving up home runs in each of his first three starts, this is more like it:

Got a call out from Arlo Guthrie. Can’t beat that

Stuart bounced back from two straight rough outings with six shutout innings (two hits, six K's, no walks) last night. Hopefully the ship has been righted.

He also got named the Eastern League's Pitcher of the week for the effort.

Stuart ended last season with an injury, got off to a very rough start in Binghamton this year, but had settled in lately. His last start for the organization on Wednesday was one of his better ones, allowing one run over six innings. I was thinking he might be in Syracuse soon, but alas, business is business.
