The Scent of Musk (split from Off the Cuff and Whatnot - 2022)
Re: The Scent of Musk (split from Off the Cuff and Whatnot - 2022)
Are these "extreme levels of data scraping" due to AIs at loose on the internet looking and looking for human word patterns to emulate?
Re: The Scent of Musk (split from Off the Cuff and Whatnot - 2022)
Well, Post and Mastodon never really stuck for me. Perhaps Threads by Instagram will. I'm installing it now
Re: The Scent of Musk (split from Off the Cuff and Whatnot - 2022)
Smart from them to let users import right over from Instagram, huge built in user base, probably not smart for us though, if you care about that sort of thing

I'll be more enthused about it when they have a browser based version and a Tweetdeck knock off. As a phone-only tool I suspect I won't be on there much. I hate my damn phone. All phones if we're being truthful.

Hoping in some small way that my downloading that app and liking stuff will show up on some graph one day soon in a piece by Vice about twitter's death
great googly moogly!
Re: The Scent of Musk (split from Off the Cuff and Whatnot - 2022)
Deactivated Threads , absolutely nothing happens there, it is missing so many features, anyway, if I wanted to delete it I would have to also delete my Instagram account, very shifty, but very Zuck

rebranding twitter to not have the birds is quite possibly the dumbest thing i've ever heard.

AFAIK it's still twitter dot com and the messages are still called tweets? I don't much understand it unless more is coming. I haven't been on twitter in over a month. Feels like the only thing they had going for it was that twitter used to be cool and you'd hope it would return to old twitter. That feels very dead now. Good job, Elon.

Re: The Scent of Musk (split from Off the Cuff and Whatnot - 2022)
The best part is that I go to Twitter and it gives me a field for a tweet autopopulated with the place-holder text of "What is happening?!"
That's a damn good question.

I just got an invite to Bluesky. Might as well. I was hoping Threads would be something, but it seems to be sputtering already around the first turn. Maybe 2023 is when all social media dies /crosses fingers

Elon would have been better off piling up $44 billion and setting it on fire. He's done everything he can to destroy what he bought.
The answer to the question "Can people really be that stupid?" is always "Yes."
Re: The Scent of Musk (split from Off the Cuff and Whatnot - 2022)
Tweetdeck no longer free for use. Peace out, Twitter. That was really the last thing keeping me on the platform.
Re: The Scent of Musk (split from Off the Cuff and Whatnot - 2022)
Musk is floating the idea of putting Twitter behind a pay wall, all users will be charged, I still use it , but if it comes to that then I'm out

Musk is the subject in the latest of Walter Isaacson's 'Genius Series' biographies [previously Einstein, Jobs, DaVinci, B. Franklin]. Claims Musk gave three years worth of access to all aspects of his work life.
Probably not going to be on my reading list, but your mileage may vary.

I'd give Isaacson four years of access to me if he'd like to equate me with Einstein and Ben Franklin.

I'd rather shit in my own hands and then start clapping than read a book about Elon Musk.

I might read it, eventually, since it's by Walter Isaacson. I've read his biographies of Einstein and Franklin, and his bio of Leonardo is on my to-read shelf.
I once read a biography of Saddam Hussein, so I guess I can read one about Elon Musk.

Yeah, I don't think you need to like the subject of a bio in order to want to read it. Shit, I read three books on Trump a couple years back.

But were any of them part of a GENIUS series?

It was part of the Very Stable Genius Series.

Larry David and Musk were at a wedding...

Later"Do you want to just murder kids in schools?" David said.
Isaacson wrote that Musk was "baffled and annoyed" by the question, and said he's "anti-kid murder."
"Then how could you vote Republican?" David said.
I'm paranoid. But am I paranoid enough?

I finally got a BlueSky invite, that's the Jack Dorsey X alternative, actually looks visually a lot like X but so far without the nonsense.
Apparently I get one invite a week, so if you are looking for one let me know
