What's in Store for Twenty-Four?: Reed Garrett

Post by Edgy MD » Sun Apr 28, 2024 5:16 pm

Look, if anyone who gets paid for their outlooks expected anything from me, there would have already been a thread about me.

But they were all wrong. I'm Reed Garrett, and I'm not only killing it out of the pen, I'm killing it out of the pen (a) in two-inning stints, (b) in a time when starting pitchers are getting hooked early, and (c) for a team that strikes late. All this adds up to a hell of an opportunity to earn decisions.

And holy heck, am I. Currently at 5–0 with a save through my first 14 2/3 innings, I'm on a torrid pace for an all-time team-best 30–0 record with six saves.

That could turn around at any moment. The fates are fickle, and I'm subject to them just the same as you, despite my awesomeness, but again, the experts have had no clue, so I turn to you. At the end of the line, what is my season going to look like?

Trivia

Reed Garrett and "insert name here " are the only relievers in Mets history to win five games in a calendar month

Who is the other Mets pitcher?

The movement on his pitches is pretty killer so far. If he can keep this up, he might be looking at something like 10-1, 2.00 ERA, 110 K in 75 IP. But baseball being as it is, I predict the stress he's putting on his arm to get that movement will lead to injury down the line, so 40 G, 3.50 ERA, 11 K/9 IP. He'll get hurt, come back, be less effective, get hurt again in August and miss the rest of the season due to injury or surgery, which will wipe him out for much of 2025, as well.

If THE SUMMER OF JESSE ever comes up as a category in Jeopardy!, I'm going to sweep. The only time I've ever successfully called in to win a radio contest, it was a Jesse Orosco 1983 question.
