Lindor Gets Noticed
Re: Lindor Gets Noticed
Marcel Ozuna is juicier than a bowl of fruit punch.
Pass. It. On.

Re: Lindor Gets Noticed
Marte has missed significant time though right?
And Ozuna is not just a martini-sipper, and an alleged steroid user, but a wife beater - he can fuck off I wouldn't vote for him if he hit 100 home runs

No, he's one of the few on that team who hasn't.

It's our Marte who's missed significant time.
Re: Lindor Gets Noticed
The race ain't over, for him or the Mets, and wonderful happenings are still yet to transpire.

Re: Lindor Gets Noticed
I've always thought that this was total bullshit. If Lindor has the better season, then he's more valuable than Ohtani, just the same as a one hundred dollar bill is more valuable than a fifty dollar bill. Otherwise, you're giving the MVP award to Ohtani because he has better teammates than Lindor does.metsmarathon wrote: ↑Thu Aug 29, 2024 10:13 am
i think the mets need to make the playoffs for lindor to have a real shot at the mvp, and even then it might not be enough.
If Lindor has the better season than Ohtani, than how is it that the Dodgers make the playoffs while the Mets don't? It's because Ohtani's teammates were better than Lindor's. That's the only explanation and giving Ohtani the MVP for that reason is absurd and nonsensical.

Re: Lindor Gets Noticed
Exactly. Otherwise you're punishing a player because the game comes easier to him. Who cares how much effort a player has to give? It should be about production and only about production. If a player can hit a HR with his eyes closed and hung over from last night's out on the town with the boys bar crawl, then so be it. All that matters is the HR itself.Edgy MD wrote: ↑Thu Aug 29, 2024 10:20 am Plenty o' season left for the factors to change, of course.
I tend to think, as valuable as All-Star-level hitting while playing shortstop at a high level is, hitting more productively than anybody in the league while sipping martinis in between plate appearancess may be an even more impressive trick.

So sad. See my post above.Benjamin Grimm wrote: ↑Thu Aug 29, 2024 10:23 am It's nice that Lindor is being considered as a candidate, but I'd be very surprised if he won. Especially since it's looking more and more likely that his team won't make the postseason.

I agree. Voters seem to put too much emphasis on the V in MVP.

The smartest solution is so so often the simplest. I think that some of the voters complicate the thought process not out of necessity but because they think that it makes them appear smarter.Benjamin Grimm wrote: ↑Thu Aug 29, 2024 5:27 pm I agree. That go-ahead-and-eventual-game-winning hit up the middle by Luís Iglesias that Geraldo Perdomo couldn't handle?
Our MVP-candidate shortstop would've gotten that.

My bad, for some reason I thought you asked about Ozuna.
Yes, Ketel Marte HAS missed time (and is still missing it).

Re: Lindor Gets Noticed
Lindor admits to Ken Rosenthal that he’s a hugger.
https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/573276 ... interview/At first, I wanted to hug a lot of things (take responsibility and control). I felt like that was part of why I came here, to help guide the organization in the right direction. I have learned that I came here to play shortstop at a very high level. If there is something in my way, I can hug it, protect it. If it needs to be fixed, fix it. But if not, just keep moving. Let the manager hug other things. Let Stearns hug other things. Let (owner) Steve (Cohen) hug other things. I don’t have to be the one hugging everything.
Hope for the best. Expect the Mets.
Re: Lindor Gets Noticed
I could use a hug, Francisco, and Carlos and Steve aren't on it.
Re: Lindor Gets Noticed
Kalina has clearly been lobbying.

The first thing I thought of after reading that was Carlos Beltran in 2006.

Re: Lindor Gets Noticed
The idea is that the notion that denying Ohtani the MVP Award based on his lack of defensive contribution should not be considered a denial at all, as there is an award set aside for outstanding offensive player that considers only offense, and that award should be considered as prestigious as the Cy Young Award, and the idea that the MVP is the offensive equivalent (or "everyday player" equivalent) of the Cy Young Award, that is seemingly still maintained by some voters, should be tossed out with the trash.
Ohtani appears to be a runaway favorite of the Hank Aaron Award, and that's to be celebrated, and we all should look forward to a hardy race for the MVP, for which he is surely a candidate for as well. But unlike the Hank Aaron Award, his lack of defensive contributions should be understood to be a meaningful factor in measuring his performance.
At least, I think that's what's there. I seem to be inferring a lot.

Re: Lindor Gets Noticed
So Ohtani can't win the MVP award if he wins the Hank Aaron award? Is that what the guy is saying? Or maybe he's saying that a DH can't win an MVP award? Well, what if there was a DH who finished the season with 100 HRs, 250 RBI's a .600 BA and an .800 OBP? Is he saying that even that guy can't win the MVP because he DH'ed?
Value is value, no matter where it comes from. Justin Verlander and Roger Clemens won MVP awards while providing no offensive value and relatively little defensive value -- and with a Cy Young award existing for pitchers only. Dennis Eckersley won an MVP award pitching just 80 innings, and also providing zero offensive value.
