MFYankees Season of Doom 2024
Re: MFYankees Season of Doom 2024
The notion that the conduct of George Steinbrenner is somehow the gold standard that's missing should not be entertained.

Well, Steinbrenner flipping his lid would be schadenfreude-ilicious.
The Yankees really are a two-man team, and nothing else. I was amazed when they batted JD Davis cleanup. Seriously, what were they thinking?

The answer to the question "Can people really be that stupid?" is always "Yes."
Re: MFYankees Season of Doom 2024
The problem is that the alleged virtues of Steinbrenner's leadership are pretty much exactly what took President Trump to the top.
We can have a good old time laughing at it all, but I feel like the last laugh was on us.

I don't think there has to be a disconnect between enjoying Steinbrenner antics as entertainment as owner of your (least) favorite team while not wanting the same shenanigans in your government.

So the lesson, kids, is never to make fun of Georgia Steinbrenner because years after he died, Trump became President.
Re: MFYankees Season of Doom 2024
Make fun of him all you want.
It doesn't work for me, anymore. It may certainly work for you.
Fortunately, the Yankees have proven they can fail without him. Sometimes even disgracefully so.

I heard him do an inning or two over the weekend. He wasn't so bad. Better than that John Sterling Wannabe clown they had on there
Re: MFYankees Season of Doom 2024
He called that like he was betting on the game.
Or is "Just what the Doctor ordered" going to be his catch phrase?

Yeah I only heard this call so I shouldn't judge ,I kinda admire his redemption story and fair play to him for turning his life around

Michal Kay and John Flaherty get into an uncomfortable spat on the air.
Flaherty comes out with a passive aggressive knife attack, and Kay escalates.

Key seems to be sensitive, bordering on touchy, about a lot of things.

"Listen, John, I don't pick out my schedule, I go where I'm told" -- Boool-Shit!
Kay picks which road trips he'll skip just like Gary does (only Kay skips more of them). There might be some minor negotiation in deciding but no way is YES telling Kay, 'You're going on the Anaheim trip this year and that's final!!!!!'
I think Flaherty is their best color guy but he doesn't have the stature of O'Neill or Cone or (I lose track of how many dozen color guys they use these days) so it's logical that the less desirable trips are the ones that both Kay and one of seconds with more pull skip together.
It reminds me of when Francesa would claim that his show's producers were the ones who cut off callers, never him ... except that when the show was simulcast you could see him waving to the producers to cut the guy off.
This whole 'I'm no prima-donna / I just work here' stuff from both of those guys is comical.

Stroman never pitched an inning of post-season for the Yanx this year, even in those series when he was on the active roster.

A-a-ron Boone will manage the Yanx in 2025 ... at least to start the season.
After that it's all up for grabs.

Re: MFYankees Season of Doom 2024
I guess Bob and Aaron are the most successful father and son managerial duo. The only alternatives that spring to mind are Buddy and David Bell and Felipe Alou and Luis Rojas.
I think the Sandys Alomar, Sr. and Jr., may have each had interim stints.

Re: MFYankees Season of Doom 2024
I recall reading once that Connie Mack’s son stepped in to run the team several times when his dad was in his 70s. Not quite official though.
Re: MFYankees Season of Doom 2024
Yeah, once you add Earl Mack to the equation, it's no contest who the first family of MLB managers is.
Measuring managers by wins, and using Bill James' technique of measuring family impact, by doubling the contribution of the second-most prolific guy (and tripling and quadrupling, etc., any subsequent guys), nobody is even breathing the same air as Mack Daddy and Son.
In fact, 33 individual managers — as families of one — put more points on the board than the Boones. The Bells have the highest total reached by two figures in one family, for what that's worth.
