The talking heads (MSNBC) are mentioning that the mistake the Democrats have made is they consider Latinos as one bloc.
They are different, and are here for various reasons. Many fled Communism and are looking for freedoms. Some fled gang violence and are looking for a strong law and order leader. Past generations of many fled poverty and are looking for a career that is not threatened by the influx of new generations of immigrants.
And those people didn't feel insulted by the comedians , because they are not Puerto Ricans, who are already citizens.

The "not me" sentiment is like how the German Jews in America fought against the influx of Polish and other Eastern European Jews because they had already "made it".

Whatever the reasons, the GOP communicated the right message that they were looking to hear, while the Democrats were misidentifying them as one group.

Later
I blame Susan Collins
"Never underestimate the power of stupid people in a large group". George Carlin
I have never insulted anyone. I simply describe them, accurately.
